Ok, I'm going to try to summarize the last 4 pages of this thread.
1) CNB has DONE MORE for TROY than CLB ever did. That was the original thesis I took issue with. The statement had NOTHING to do, originally, with who is the better coach or who would have the most records.
2) in light of the above, back to back 10 win seasons, one win against a ranked SEC team, and a shared title has done more for TROY than moving from Div 2 to Div 1AA to Div 1A, expanding the stadium by more than 100%, winning MULTIPLE Southland and Sunbelt titles ( some outright) beating a 19th ranked (19 > 25 in this case) and giving CNB his first shot.
That makes PERFECT sense to me and I'm glad someone explained it to me 'cause I was confused.

My summary. Neal Brown will break all Blakeneys records if he stays. Blakeney was a good but not great coach who moved us up all the way from DII. He also should have won an FCS title or two with the talent he assembled here. Enough said.

Look. I love CNB and I am thankful we have him. Back 2 Back 10 win seasons and a conference championship. Troy University Football is ELITE. Coach Brown has done a wonderful job. BUT... Let's not forget that CLB took us from Division 2 football to Division 1 and has 5 Sun Belt titles. The man is a living legend. As to who is greater? Nah I aint playing.

How many power 5 schools were trying to hire Blakeney? He was a good coach who stayed a long time here and had success. He recruited a team that should have won at least One FCS title. Give credit for getting Neal Brown here. He also refused to fire the worst coordinator in FBS. I understand he is a sacred cow at Troy, but he was far from perfect. He was 31-7 up at LSU and lost. Should have mopped the floor with a pathetic Tennessee team put up 700 yards of offense up and lost to Derek Dooley. His best FBS season was 9-4. Trust me , Neal Brown could get us to a New year's six bowl in a special season and win more sun belt titles than his predecessor. I have heard good things about Steve Campbell as well. Hope we can get him if when Brown goes. We are a program on the rise now. Blankney being hired by a “power 5 conference school” was hampered for years as a result of Auburn infractions that resulted in him (Blakney)being under NCAA sanctions I understand. Other schools simply stayed away from him because of that. I do understand that he had opportunities later on but stayed here. How soon we forget what a person accomplished. It’s “what have you done for me lately” I guess!

Hard to forget Blakeney. I was a student when Maddox was here then Blakeney. Have no gripes with the man. Just pointing out a few facts. The loss to GA Southern stuck in my craw. We should have won the title that year. Rowell was to blame there too.
