FAU took out Jaime's knee. Took a cheap shot at Levi, too, the next year. There's more to my dislike of FAU than one game. I was always much more interested in beating these guys down than I was in our routine thrashing of MTSU, though we do need to get that trophy back, dang it. Their fans were a reflection on their team in terms of attitude and class whether it was at Lockhart or their new stadium. You could count on being cussed and belittled constantly when you were playing FAU. Typical South FL fans. The U is worse

As many have said ... I love that we're debating the best bowl destinations! Those 4 years were depressing times. Yes ... NOLA is better place to visit ... but we did enjoy Mobile last year. I liked that it seemed folks actually knew there was a bowl game that weekend ... and Troy/Ohio people/logos, etc. were more noticeable. Also, the date/time would be much better in Mobile. Pros/Cons for both places. Let's hope Mr. Ho is right ... and we can win big Saturday and some crazy things happen and we end up getting to play a big name somewhere! Let's finish Saturday!! Go Trojans!

The thing I like about Mobile is that the stadium is smaller and therefore the crowd looks larger and sounds louder, and beats a 3/4 empty Superdome any day in my book. Also, as Doc said, in Mobile the Bowl game is a big deal with a parade etc. locals actually know there is a game going on and whom is playing in it. I remember every time we went to NO talking to people and literally no one knew there was a game going on let alone the teams playing in it. Also, the DG Bowl offers greater TV exposure than the NO Bowl. I will go wherever we play but I like Mobile over NO.

I think that extra time is important ... especially for young guys/red shirts, etc. I think finals go up to 14th or so ... so 23rd would give the team a week of Just Football!

In comparison of bowls and exposure on a scale of 1-10 of bowls we are eligible to be in we can give all the other SBC bowls about a 2-3 and if we win and play a Toledo champ of MAC and potentially a P5 if cards fall right we would give the DG a 7-9 depending on whom we play.

Odd Question: What is the fascination some of you guys have with New Orleans? We went 2 years ago, and our fans rated it the worst bowl experience we've ever had. No one had any idea there was a football game in town, and there were no pregame hangouts where we could all sit and just talk football.
We loved Mobile, and would go there any year. Also really enjoyed Orlando last year, even if its a bit spread out for our liking.

We go to Mobile every other year anyway. Ladd is a dump.

I was there during our first bowl game there when they ran out of food in the first quarter and drinks by the 2nd quarter. Point of order though, we go to Ladd every other year as well. So does the entire league. But our fan base that travels for bowls is mostly young families. We ran into an impossible time in New Orleans trying to find things to do with wives/kids. At some point, we had to organize our own events because the bowl didn't have any outside of a crappy concert no one cared about. Mobile had stuff set up for us, and pregame was self contained downtown. I think that's why we're so eager to go to Montgomery this year. We've been told they run their game much like Mobile did, and Mobile was a first class experience for every minute until we walked into the stadium.

It may be that it is a holdover thought from the days it was the only Sunbelt bowl or maybe it is for really fascinated by NOLa but I too wonder that same thing. Now if we go to Mobile I would be ready to change next year but the exposure particularly for this year is wildly different.

I totally agree about Mobile going all out for the bowl game. New Orleans is geared up for the Sugar Bowl. The NOLA bowl is an afterthought. I’ve heard Montgomery does a great job as well. There entertainment district can be very fun. New Orleans has better food, music, an atmosphere than Mobile. You can have a great time and never step foot on bourbon. I prefer the Warehouse District personally. We haven’t been to NOLA for football in quite a while. It would be nice to get back there.

I'll take the Cure Bowl, please.
Seems like the Cure Bowl would want Troy over any other team for travel reasons and ticket sales. The next closest team to the Cure Bowl is Georgia State, and I doubt they will have many fans going to Orlando... mainly because they don't have many fans.

Odd Question: What is the fascination some of you guys have with New Orleans? The date the game is played. Though I have a bigger fascination with Orlando. I don't follow MAC football, so saying we play the champ in Mobile just gets a shrug from me and pretry much every one I know off the boards. Toledo doesn't mean anything around here. I have history with the CUSA schools at least and some AAC familiarity. DG is by far the best bowl if you're actually there, though CBS has done a better job with the broadcast as their announcers don't spend 90% of the time talking about the championship game. Put DG on a Saturday night that isn't December 23rd and you have a near perfect bowl experience.

Never happen, but would be a rolicking good time. =)

Someone give me an update on possible dates and times. I don't care about opponents just yet, just trying to gauge if any are possibilities.

Someone give me an update on possible dates and times. I don't care about opponents just yet, just trying to gauge if any are possibilities. I see two possibilities. New Orleans Bowl- Dec.16 Noon CT kickoff. Dollar General Bowl- Dec.23 6PM CT kickoff.

Noon kickoff in New Orleans - worthless time slot - unless Troy is in that bowl, I'm not watching if I am at home - sorry but I'm not Dollar General is a better time slot period for almost every bowl option imo
My preference Dollar General Camellia Cure R & L - NOLA

Noon kickoff in New Orleans - worthless time slot - unless Troy is in that bowl, I'm not watching if I am at home Just curious as to why. Do you just refuse to watch games in the noon/1pm slot regardless of what they are? Or is it you'd be doing other things where there's no TV in the background? I usually have some football related something on when doing stuff around the house on Saturdays, so I wondered. Though I can understand not being interested in a Sunbelt/CUSA game if you don't really follow the conferences or if a more interesting game is on.

Now I will be there the good Lord allowing in New Orleans for the bowl but why would Troy play there if they win and have a chance to play an 11-2 team and or Jimbo Fischer's Ex in Mobile as a prime time game (the only one being played)? I understand some would to go back to NO and yes kind of nice to be inside at bowl but does not the afore mentioned reasons trump the latter?

Sorry no logic, I just know New Orleans would love to have Troy again, especially a Troy / USM game. I have no problem changing my reservations to Felix's in Mobile and playing FSU. It actually works out better for my schedule. We all know ESPN is the puppet master and everyone else is along for the ride. It will depend on what they want.
