I was talking with a friend and they said "Troy is too good for the Sun Belt." I said that I liked the Sun Belt. If you think about the teams in our conference, we are all considered threats against the big boys. I think that once we install a championship game we will be better than the American or Conference USA. I like playing App State and Georgia Southern and Arkansas State (not you South Alabama... you can stick it).

We can surpass C-USA but we aren't going to surpass the AAC

I think with a championship game we will. I think Georgia Southern will be back in a year or 2. I think App and stAte will be good as usual. Ga State is building a heck of a program with a heck of a stadium. There are positives all around and I think all our members are committed to investing in football.

SBC will never surpass the AAC (these schools have too many resources). The SBC can threaten CUSA at some point, but schools such as GA State located in big markets will eventually leave the SBC though. I think the SBC will always be where it is now.
Hopefully a new conference will form with Troy, Southern Miss and some other schools which would make more sense.
In the long run, Troy is too good for the SBC but right now we can use it to our advantage and dominate the conference.
What we need to do/achieve to make the next step:
- dominate the conference like Boise St dominates the MWC - be ranked over a period of time in back to back seaons (and be ranked in the Top 20, Top 15) - a breakout year (12-0) like Boise St, Utah, Fresno State, Marshall, Hawaii, W Michigan, UCF, Houston had in the past - a star player who is somehow in the Heisman discussion (think Wolfe/N Illinois, Moss/Marshall, Smith/Utah etc), just for media attention, and recruiting purposes. This will also draw big crowds and grow the fanbase, people want to see media stars - a star offensive player in the NFL (think Favre/S Miss, Moss/Marshall, Young/BYU) - a 4 star (or 5 star commit) out of HS (QB, RB, WR) - Parade All-American recruit or sth - if CNB leaves, a name coach who draws media attention (Kiffin/FAU) - keep investing in facilities, IPF should be next

Was thinking of this today ... we need our Conference to be good! It was down a bit this year ... we need other teams beating good teams from other G5 conferences ... and competing against, and sometimes beating P5 teams. I think the teams we have ... we have potential to be a strong conference. GA Southern and South AL need to make good hires ... we need them strong! TX St will improve ... they're a huge school and good recruiting base and have had good classes last two years. Anyway ... I think the Sun Belt will be our home for foreseeable future ... as long as the conference continues to improve, it's a good home.

"We have to be ASKED or "invited" by one of these other, better conferences, don't we? Or can we now just invite ourselves into the AAC, ACC, SEC...?

We already have Demarcus Ware for the Star player in the NFL. We will get an offensive player in the pro bowl one of these days.

The Sun Belt Conference is the absolute bottom of all division 1 conferences. Always has been, always will be. That is just the cold hard TRUTH !! It is filled with teams who are new to Div 1 or fbs and the traditional stagnant programs (Ull, Ulm). Troy football by far is above all teams in the sunbelt as to championships, winning records, bowls, attendance, support etc.... As long as Troy is a member of this conference, we will never be able to achieve the next step of growing our program! One example is our bowl tie in. New Orleans is our reward for conference champion. Our “reward” for our champion is to play a 6-6 conf USA team !!! Hmmm.

Ok, ok I'll bite, "just tell me which conference is asking for us to join them?" See the problem here? Lots of keyboard pontificators say things like this, but it isn't like a school can just knock on conference X's door and say, "hey, we're Troy and we're better than any of our conference, and we want in, NOW!" See the problem here? So funny that 24 months ago, at 4-8, no chatter of being better than.... Sunbelt IS where we need to be. What we need is a bigger piece and a better chance at the New Year's pie!

With the size of our school, budget etc. Sun Belt is the right fit for Troy. We should be happy we have a winning program back on the right track again. I think we will be competitive post Brown whenever that is.

Is there some sort of rule where every Sun Belt team must have a thread on their message board about how they are "too good" for the Sun Belt? Its unescapable.

I do think our football team is one of the best two teams in the conference. I do understand with our current support , school size, facilities, our small hometown , etc... we are pretty much destined to stay in the sunbelt. I think what happened to our program from 2011 to 2014 set us back for quite some time. I think were on the right path to eventually draw some attention to receive an invite to a better conference.

Invited to other conferences don’t have a darn thing to do with success on the field! It has EVERYTHING to do with viewing area population. Nothing proved that better than FIU and FAU getting invited to the CUSA! We are small market in farm country! The Sun Belt is where we will stay unless there is a two conference unification!

We are doing very well indeed considering all the aforementioned factors. I am very proud of what we are accomplishing. The LSU win brought tears of joy.

Miami doesn't even draw that well down south let alone the other two joke schools
