Ok it is not a real sexy play but if you get 4 yards per play.....you do realize that scores you EVERY offensive possession. So if we run 80 plays a game with average of starting position at our 25 yard line that is 320 yards of offense which is not fantastic but scores is 28-32 points per game and has us having possession about 38-40 minutes a game...may not be sexy but that wins you about every game with our D.

Troy averaged 12.3 yards per completion on Saturday. That wins games. I couldn’t care less what some keyboard coaches think about it. The bubble screen sets up so many other plays it’s ridiculous.

I've got nothing against bubble screens as long as they aren't used all the time to the point it becomes predictable. This. We actually ran a bubble screen back when we ran the wishbone. It was effective as we had two 4.4 wr's that were great athletes. It was very effective when we ran it but we didn't run it 20 times a game. You may have backed into one of the reasons we run the bubble so much. We presently DO NOT have 4.4 WR's and therefore do not get the separation from DB's needed to pitch the downfield ball. The bubble screen then becomes an easy out when the odds are off for a downfield pass. If it gains 3-4 yards, it's as good as a run. Further more, if the D falls into the routine of defending the bubble as a run, then, Johnny Johnson takes the "lateral" screen and finds an open receiver to pitch to, at least once finding the end zone this year. For whatever reason, we are 8-2 this campaign. Plenty of ball left to watch and I expect to see all of our weapons unleashed in Jonesboro.

I take an alpha approach to Troy football. My view is we are better than any team in the country. Forget about 5* players, billion dollar facilities, and millionaire coaches. Troy is alpha dog. I expect to beat LSU. I expect to beat Nebraska next season and if we don't I am mad as hell. Coach Brown is an alpha dog. He expects to win no matter who he plays. If I call him out because we got our arse kicked by South Alabama, it is nothing compared to what he probably thinks to himself. There is a reason we turned in a 10 win season last year and are set to turn in that or better this year. Alpha Dog mentality. If we aren't crushing people by 4 touchdowns, then I'm pissed.

I'm no genius ... but all the offensive coaches I've ever been around or know of will game plan ... based on film, etc. ... but in the game, you take what the defense gives you ... or what you think they are giving you. (of course defensive coaches are always trying to disguise things). Bottom line ... whatever play is called is the right play ... if it works. Bubble screens are no different than a toss sweep if we were an I team. If it's there ... then take it. Just like when we ran the flexbone ... we could attack any part of the field at any time. And, we'd respond to whatever the defense was doing and make them pay. Some might say running multiple reverses in a game ... two back to back .. would be crazy. But, that's what we did in the championship game in 87. That wasn't "game planned" ... we did it because their defense was flying out and saftey flying up to account for our QB and pitch back on the corner. We shocked that huge defense ... they were absolutely sucking wind! I don't think we've every had 20 bubble screens in a game. Saturday, I think we might've thrown 2 ... maybe 3. We went downfield several times ... mostly incomplete. So, I would take a bubble screen that averages 4-5 yards over a beautiful 40 yard pass ... that's incomplete and a loss of a down. As several have said here ... whatever works ... whatever gets us Ws!! Oh ... and the receiver on the 86 and 87 teams that had most of the big plays on "bubble" screens ... Kenny Eddenfield! Wasn't the fastest ... but had a way of getting by the first guy and making big plays.

Surf Report:There are a few small waves left out here on Pensacola Beach. North Northeast winds are light causing clean conditions. It looks ankle to knee high if you are desperate for some salt water therapy. There may be a few bigger sneaker sets if you have some time to wait on them.

But we are 8-2 because of our excellent defense. The stats back this up. Also, just think we could be 10-0, ranked and in the hunt without the bubble screen. But alas, we are stuck with our unimaginative OC and his bubble screen plan.

What you fail to realize is that some of you posters are the sort of people who even if we WERE 10-0, ranked, scheduled to play both Alabama and Auburn AT HOME next year with both of those schools being caught red-handed in NCAA violations, they would STILL...find something to gripe about. The stats...back...this...up.

Actually like this and the mere fact is there are NOT just two groups of people as in: Half glass full and half glass empty folks but there is third group screaming "That damn glass is no where NEAR half full". Even though when measured with instruments (stats) it is actually 62% full.

Evermore the reason to enjoy this season as it unfolds.
