We need a little help if we are going to win even a share of the conference title. Arkansas State and App State are both undefeated in conference. We get stAte head to head but we don't play App. App has the following chances to lose: 11/4 @ulm 11/9 vs GaSouthern 11/25 @ GaState 12/2 vs ULL
Well I'm thinking we have to be Georgia State fans. I'm thinking they have the best shot. The two LA schools could surprise someone and get a W but Georgia State at home is who I am going to root for. They also play GaSouth but those guys haven't been themselves all season.
So who is it going to be?

App St lost to UMASS so nothing is out of the question True, but UMASS played their last 2 games well. Granted they are a dumpster fire but they could salvage their season... really salvage it if they can pull off a miracle @ Miss State this Saturday.

I think those last two games are the only option for us. I think the loss to UMass hurts us, much like LSU used us as an attention getter, UMass may have awaken APP state. The good news is, SBC does not recognize "Co-champs" if we both finish with one loss, we are both champs. If I'm not mistaken, us beating Ark. State may not count against them either even though common sense says we beat them head to head (of course I'm projecting hypotheticals). Me thinks the SBC is weird in the fact that Troy, Ark St and App St all have 1 loss, all are champs???

Until next season when there is a championship game. Where is that game going to be played? New Orleans? It will be held at the school that has the best conference record. I'm not even upset at this. I would love an extra home game at Troy. I know the big conferences have a destination championship game and this makes the SBC look a little small time, but I really like on campus games.

Better to Play at Troy, stAte App State etc and have 26,000+ there then at Superdome with 10,000 or less.

Depends who is in the title game. The Cajuns would bring a nice crowd to New Orleans.I would definately go see Troy down there. Had a blast at the New Orleans Bowl

If the championship game were to be played at a neutral site, it would make no sense to play it in NO and then have the NO Bowl there 1-2 weeks later. The NO Bowl wouldn't want to surrender the prestige of having (most years) the conference champs play in their fame. The only other neutral site that makes sense to me is AAtlanta, and that site is already spoken for during championship week. In addition, I like the idea of rewarding the team with the best record with a game at their venue. stAte or SOBama would bring HUGE numbers to TROY for a c'ship game.

Legion Field should be available now that they don't play the AHSAA Super 7 there anymore. The only real outliers from a geographical perspective are UTSA and Coastal Carolina. Maybe App State, but they tend to travel well. I know it is a dump, and I agree with making it a home game for the best team, but if they ever do go neutral site, Birmingham has the infrastructure to support it with some nice hotels downtown for the teams, and plenty in the suburbs for traveling fans. And talks have ramped up again about a new stadium at the BJCC site.

Crampton bowl would be a good choice as well, even if the Camelia bowl is played there. The stadium would look full on TV and Montgomery would roll out the red carpet for us.

IF a new stadium is ever built in B’ham, that would be a good option, but I have no desire to go to Legion Field for any reason. Crampton Bowl is a an option I overlooked and to hold the game there wouldn’t present the conflicts I mentioned regarding NO.

Most schools would look at it as we do and find some decent venue in their vicinity. This would then most likely turn into rotating off campus sites which would result in lack of interest and poor attendance. On campus home field for meeting the criteria of regular season champs will probably be our destination for a while. I believe this is to our advantage.

What about the old Turner field? GA State has a nice facility up there. Probably would be packed out for a change. Atlanta is a reasonable drive.

We could have 4 conference champions. Ga state, App State, Troy, and Ark state. To be part of that we would have to win out and yes while Co-Champs we would have defeated two of the others and not played the other but we would have the best record of all of them and while CO we would definitely be considered the top dog....

These are the issues you deal with when you don’t take care of business against a very weak opponent (USA) when that opportunity arrives!
