How many Troy alums/ residents of the city/ pike county think this way? I'd follow Troy if we were playing Faulkner in a conference game. Just me I guess

Would I support Troy not matter who the playing? Yes I already do. Would I want them to drop down to another division? Heck no

I understand why we went Fbs. Wouldn't matter what level we are at to me though.I enjoy just going and supporting the teams. Some still have no respect for the school even many that are graduates sadly. If you think we are second rate, never darken the doors of our facilities or donate any money Shame on them. Honestly, do we have enough support/ financial muscle to go further? The sun belt is a good fit for us. Said before I was happy with us in fcs,but understand the move up and glad we are competitive. Troy has my full support has since I first enrolled in 89.

I stopped worrying about how other people view the University. Troy people love her and that's all that matters to me.

We are all trojans here. The mentality of some is just something "power 5" universities don't have to deal with. I chose Troy because it was a smaller school over Virginia Tech and Tennessee. Best decision I ever made

We, and all schools, will just go down one level for a game. So, FBS schools will usually schedule one FCS. FCS might schedule a DII. Faulkner ... is NAIA ... they aren't even NCAA. So, there would never be a reason/justification for us to play Faulkner. Now ... we could schedule JSU again at some point ... but never DII or DIII or NAIA.

Just saying if we were NAIA I'd be a hard core fan as usual

I grew up as one of the kids that played on the old grass hill in the south end zone during the NAIA days. My late Father was the first broadcaster for the Trojans. I’ve watched the program grow. Eventually got my degree from Troy. Then one day I sat down in my seat in the stands and watched my school beat a ranked FBS school in Troy on national TV. It’s been a long and fun ride on the climb up. We are the only program that I know of that made the jump all the way to FBS from NAIA. Troy really epitomizes what hard work and dedication can result in. It’s really a special place. The LSU win was just a start to what we can become.

It was a monumental achievement to win what LSU looked at as a glorified scrimmage. But to think we could do that on a consistent basis is a little far fetched. I've seen Troy football from DII all the way up. Been there done that got multiple T shirts. We fit in the Sun Belt. Troy could find a spot in C-USA but we'd probably be middle of the pack. The resources and fan base are "is what it is" We have trouble enough getting alums to not be Alabama and Auburn fans. Like I said, I would bet there are more Troy alums in Tuscaloosa than Atlanta this weekend? These people might hold a degree but they aren't Troy Trojans. That will never change. The shame is on them. I would even be ok with us going back to FCS. We could win a title/ titles at that level. Not saying we should drop just saying it wouldn't bother me if we did. As long as we get good kids who want a quality education and the chance to play at a school that wants to win games at whatever level we are at that is fulfilling the mission of our university and athletic department as far as I'm concerned. We are FBS now. I know we did this for increased revenue and exposure. That is all well and good. I am ambivalent about the level we play our sports at. Lots of fine academic schools play FCS or lower division sports. Until there is a playoff system that works for all in FBS we should not try to compete with power 5 schools. If Troy had went 12-0 this year with an LSU win , we still wind up in the Camellia or similar bowl game. I enjoy going to Troy games. I root for my team regardless. I could care less if we are thought of a a little school by the masses. I just get annoyed beyond belief when alums/ so called "fans" don't respect Troy. How many Auburn/ Alabama ball caps are worn in our stadium? To those people I say "go home". If you are in our facility wear our gear, show some respect and pride! If not don't show up. Whatever bowl game we wind up at is my Rose bowl. It is all a matter of perspective. Like I said if we play LSU or Faulkner I get as much enjoyment out of Troy sports.

When I came to the Troy - App State game last year in Troy, I did so for several reasons. The first and foremost reason was my love of App State. The other reasons all had to do with Troy - a town that hosted many a deer hunting trip for my dad and kept our freezer full of meat for many years, genuine Southerners who know the value of family and faith, southern Alabama rural heaven, and a visit to a fine university that offers a quality, affordable education.
Like App, Troy will always be an "also ran" in the public university hierarchy. We'll always be fighting for the scraps the "big boys" drop from the table. For us, it's Carolina and NC State. For you it's Alabama and Auburn.
When we play "down" to those smaller / lower universities, our schools still need our support ... not our arrogance.
Take pride in the fine university that Troy is. Cheer your hearts out. Let slip the dogs of war!

I went to Troy in part because I liked the location. There is a wonderful southern atmosphere in Troy. You will always have some sort of "Town vs Gown" issue at any college town in the US though. Ever seen the movie Breaking Away?

You really overestimate CUSA. From top to bottom, they are on the same level as the Sun Belt. Troy would be a Top 3 team in CUSA this year. #2. If Troy had gone 12-0 this season, with wins over Boise State, LSU, Arkansas State, and an Akron team that may be bowling, then Troy has a HIGH chance of making it to the Cotton Bowl. The only teams that would be standing in the way currently would be UCF and USF. And even then an argument would be made about who had the better OOC wins. USF's best win is over a really bad Illinois. UCF's best win is over an okay Maryland. Troy would've had wins over a ranked LSU and what very well may be a ranked Boise State.

Troy wouldn't beat UAB this year. You're saying all the old Sun Belt schools in C-USA wouldn't beat us either? Schools like MTSU have overtaken us. They are bigger schools with more money. I was proud when we used to beat them but those days are over. The Sun Belt is below any other conference except the MAC. We should concentrate on winning here.

No way , Jose. It's all about fan base and ticket sales. Why do you think a very bad Tennessee team that goes 6-6 will get to a bigger bowl than say a 9-3 Troy? Money, Money, Money.
I love Troy to death but we have to face the facts.

The Cotton Bowl reference is based on the fact that the Highest ranked G5 team gets a BCS bowl. So, if we were highest ranked G5 team (which if we do go 12-0 ... we'd have good shot at) ... then it wouldn't be based on fan base/tickets sales, etc. Now, yes ... if we're 10-2 ... we likely don't get a bowl over any P5 school. And that would be true if of pretty much any G5 school.

Big difference in the AAC and the Sun Belt and also thinking we get the nod over UCF (80,000 students, huge Alumni base and Orlando) or USF (40,000 students, huge Alumni base and Tampa). I would love to see us go 12-0 to see what happens but even if we did this year and UCF went 12-0 they are getting the nod over us

You want to question my loyalty I'll take that challenge any time. Not going anywhere anytime soon.
