My problem is the mentality of a lot of Troy alums. They see Troy football as an afterthought. I know many of them will attend whatever bowl game Alabama and Auburn goes to and not ours if we get eligible for one now. Same bunch who think the LSU win is just a fluke and just a way to dig at an SEC rival. I know a lot of them grew up rooting for the tide or tigers and few have degrees from Troy plus Alabama or Auburn but in the end you have to choose your loyalty. For those of you who think we can even compete in a bigger conference these folks are a big hurdle to that. I grew up in Virginia and am related to Frank Beamer. I'll still watch Tech on TV and like to see them win, but no way would I ever think of wearing VT apparel at a Troy game or go to a Tech bowl game even if Troy wasn't in one. Virginia Tech is not my alma mater plain and simple. Get behind your alma mater or your alma mater doesn't need you. How many of these will donate to Alabama or Auburn even in the form of a license tag and not think of giving Troy a penny? You make some excellent points and I doubt there’s really anything you can do about it. It’s the same ones that showed their, normally invisible, Trojan pride after the win at LSU. The same people that ask for free tickets anytime they want to attend a Troy game. Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!
Butt in seat, Coke and hotdog purchased. Welcome to Troy! Prepare to be amazed!

Best seat in the house is $25. You can actually go and root for your team as hard as an SEC fan and have it mean as much to you. Maybe my brain isn't wired right. I have no real stake in Al vs TN Saturday. I happen to work at the Auburn games and can care less if they win either. Maybe going to school at Troy taught me something after all!

Just noticed Akron is sitting in 1st place in the MAC
That was a good win.
Boise State is in 1st place in the MWC (a game we had our shot to win)
And every season USA wins one or two games they probably shouldnt have (#17 SDSU and Mississippi state last year)
I think we bounce back and make a run now.

This state is 60% Georgia 20% Ga Tech 10% Ga southern 10% something else Depends on what part of Ga. Whole lot more Auburn and Bama fans in the Columbus area than Tech fans. On a good note the Troy Chattahoochee Campus/431/Benning/Columbus campus's are starting to do events. Parents said they had a good turn out for the LSU tailgate. Hopefully it will increase the Troy brand in the area.

And everyone who knows me knows I'm TROY only PERIOD, EXCLAMATION POINT Oh and I will cheer for SunBelt schools over all other conferences everytime. I get that same crap here in Florida I'm in the automobile business, my office has my Troy degree on the wall, my Troy team picture, my picture of me in my Troy football uniform, a Troy screensaver and mouse pad on my computer, a signed Troy football from the 2009 Sunbelt championship in a clear case with two Troy mini football helmets on top, a Troy football pen holder and Troy Calculator on my desk, and pictures of my family and my daughter in her band uniform at Troy's football games. All of this and what do I get asked? Oh, are you a gator fan? And without being rude to my customers I give the same answer " no, I really don't care anything about Florida or FSU. Troy believed in me, gave me a scholarship, paid for my school, and I are my degree from there. My allegiance is to Troy and Troy only

I'm also saying to some here that this program has a ceiling due in large part to my previous statements. As for me, ceiling or not,I'm glad to be in the building

Don’t get hung up on what those alumni that chose not to support Troy are doing. Embrace the ones that are Trojans, along with locals, and adopted Trojans. You may never change the mind of a 50 year old TSU graduate that loves another school. What you can do is spread the word about the great things going on at Troy and encourage people to check it out. You can bring new Trojans into the fold in many different ways.

When we have a smaller percentage of hard core Trojans than the degree holders only, we have a ceiling. Heck we don't have the alumni/ fan base for more than the Sun Belt anyway. The whole FBS deck is stacked against schools the likes of Troy anyway. Why do you think the LSU's of the world pay us the sums of money they do? Trust me beating them was a great achievement that brought tears of joy to this old Trojan and my family. We just can't do that on a regular basis.

I’m sure when Redwaver and Troystet played at Troy they never envisioned Troy playing FBS, with a 30,000 seat stadium, a multi million dollar end zone facility, and 4 to 5 or more games on TV every year. Don’t sell this program short of what the future holds.

If you want to grow the fan base and extend the ceiling, You have to start with the alumni and current students. They are the ones that already have a built-in connection that makes “conversation” easier. Troy is a small school, you are not going to grow by converting mass amounts of people that have zero connection. If you get the alumni ,all the “hanger ons” will follow. Focus on building a local following in Dothan and Montgomery.

I've agreed with most of what you've said but on this point I have to respectfully disagree. I believe TROY can win these "money" games. With the way we are scheduling now, an FCS opponent, a G5 school, a p5 school, and our conference slate, TROY can grow to be expectant of no less than 10-2 regular seasons. And yes 12-0 with a New Years bowl will be a yearly goal that's very attainable as is making it a regular occurrence of beating those p5s. I am no prophet but with what I've seen TROY do since I enrolled in 1994 along with the feats previously attained, I believe that TROY can reach heights many think impossible. Why can't we garner enough attention for a P5 invite? Why can't we beat the odds? Yes the cards are stacked against TROY but then what else is new. We overcome because we are TROY! I believe! Cry HAVOC!

Now it's hard for me to look at the stadium and remember what it used to look like. I'm proud that I was a small part of what built the tradition at Troy and I'm also proud of what Troy has become now

Don’t sell this program short of what the future holds. Absolutely correct! I told Troyset in a debate that our era players would never have believed we would have had uniforms, equipment and facilities like he had and those have since been declared as unfit for today’s athletes. We played in an era when we won the conference championship 3 our if 4 years in baseball and the AD refused to send us to the regionals because it cost $3,000.00! An era where we rode a bus to a game in North Alabama and came home immediately after the game on the same bus. Yep, it’s a different time and one I constantly pinch myself to see if I’m dreaming even with the occasional disappointments we occasionally self inflict. Not only can we say “ it could be worse”, many of us lived through a time when IT WAS WORSE......MUCH WORSE! “We’ve come a looooooooog was baby”! Go Trojans!
