I came across a reporter from the Tropolitan on twitter stating "Troy announces near capacity crowd yet stands are at max 75% full." I know for a fact that the stadium was well over 75% full. I'm hoping to get some responses from the message board faithful regarding this. I was at the game and fully believe the announced attendance number. I find it very sad that representatives of local "news" diminish us like that. It's almost laughable.

It was less than 75% near the end of the game, but was certainly 85 to 90% in the 1st QTR. I would assume they counted total tickets sold and not actual buts in seats. It was one of the best crowds I've ever seen, but there was certainly some room for more people. Upper deck on home side had thin sections.

It always is supposedly ticket sales not buts in the seats. I had purchased a ticket but due to Irma could not attend

His job is to report the true amount of people at the beginning of the game, not towards the end. It makes us look bad to the people who wouldn't know otherwise. The Tropolitan must just be a joke.

It pretty much looked full...especially with the people standing around the top of the bowl. They were from one end of the stadium to the other. It basically looked SRO in the first half.

What the heck is going on with the Tropolitan these days? This is not the first time they posted a critical piece. Any half decent reporter knows crowds numbers are announced or reported by # if SEATS SOLD, NOT BUTTS IN THEM!

It was def. less than 75% (probably less than 50%) when it was announced but yeah it was pretty packed before people started leaving late. I'm not sure which reporter you're talking about but I sat next to a kid from the Trop in the press box and he seemed like a pretty good kid. Let's not jump on him too bad here. I def. didn't hear anything negative from him throughout the game.
*EDIT* Thats not even the Trop reporter that I sat next to. Don't even know if that kid was at the game. He certainly wasn't covering it.

I posted this in another thread. This was toward the end of the first quarter. Some who sat on the east side tell us if this accurately represents what the home side looked like. If so there was easily 25+K butts in seats. Attachments:

There should be no reason to get upset about +- 30k fans. Be happy you were there! Wait until we have 50k or 80k fans and it gets crowded. The Troy game day experience is wonderful. Imagine having a mile walk to your car because the spots any closer are for big time donors. Some schools are like this.

I just thought it was interesting that the reporter tweeted that out, and wanted to get the fellow Trojans opinion on it.

My only complaint was the wait time for concessions and that they ran out of a number of items after halftime. Looks like they got caught off guard with the numbers.

My only complaint was the wait time for concessions and that they ran out of a number of items after halftime. Looks like they got caught off guard with the numbers. Because my only trip to the consession stand occurred prior to the game, I didn't experience that. Neither the Athletic Department, the university, nor the public services departments (law enforcement) were caught off guard. That they anticipated and adequately planned for the large crowd was evident throughout the day and evening as such things as traffic flow and crowd management went very well. If the consession stands ran out of items, and I assume they did since you had that issue, it was because of poor planning. That is typical of the concession management people (Sodexo?) at TROY football games. The wait time for the food you did get, coupled with the fact that these delays are the norm, is further evidence of that poor planning.

In the past Sodexo personnel wore Troy type jerseys. This time they didn't and I wonder if they still have the vendor contract for concessions or if this was a new one

I believe a lesson was learned by the staff when Mississippi St game. Getting into the game was no problem at all for me.

It was definitely more than 75%, though I think his point was to argue announced attendance. I personally don't believe the actual attendance was the highest ever.

Also, I wouldn't say the Tropolitan is a joke based on one staff member's off-hand crowd assessment. Though last year's article regarding South Hate Week was a trash opinion, I'll admit. But even that wasn't written by a sports staffer.

I would be shocked if there were less than 26,000 to 27,000 butts in seats at the beginning (that includes people standing in the bowl that were not actually in seats. Great crowd and a great day for Troy!

Concessions right inside the front gate were out of everything but drinks and popcorn before halftime! They were SO not prepared. Thank goodness for the pizza stands, or I would've been a hungry Trojan. lol Save

Can you 'old timers' believe we are complaining about the length of lines at the concession stands and running completely out of concessions?
While I sympathize with those who had to stand in those lines and feel bad for those who stood in those lines and then got to the concession stand and realize that there was nothing to be bought, these are the types of problems many of us have dreamed about. The day that the stadium would be so full that you have to wait in line to get concessions. The crowd would be so big they getting to your seat would take longer than 2 or 3 minutes. That tickets would be tough to come by and that the lines outside the ticket Gates would be stretched all the way through tailgate Terrace.
Folks These Times They Are A-Changin. Just get on the train and ride. It feels really good to be a Trojan during these times
I say, "HAVOC and let slip the dogs of war"!!!
