Ok, we played Austin Peay and heard no gripes. We play Alabama State and that's no problem. We played that little team from Texas that best us and no problem. We play UMass and no problem so what makes Liberty so negatively special? It's because we go there first? Seriously? In all the concerns/enjoyment this fan has about coaching, recruiting, strategy, game plans, injuries, where we play is irreverent as long as we have 6 games at home each year and the smaller schools reciprocate. What gripes ME is going to these "big" schools year after year and they never return the favor like LSU, Nebraska, Clemson, Georgia, etc.......but I suspect they think US small and unworthy! ITS NO BIG DEAL Of all the people that we could've agreed to a home and home with, why choose some start up FBS program? We have so many opportunities to ink a deal with Tulane, and Memphis for example. We need to start contacting some of the more prominent Group of 5, and not lower ourself to a Liberty standard. Interesting. If we have a deal with one of those you mentioned, would you feel better?

We have a contract with Memphis and just because we want to play some other larger schools doesn't mean they want or can play us. They may see us as unworthy of their time (sic)! Scheduling is VERY difficult. I just don't like referring to new FBS football schools as "new startup FBS programs"! Wasn't that long ago that we was one of them and I'd like to think we didn't like being looked at like that back then so we ought to be classier than to look at a Liberty or anyone else like that now. If not it makes us no better than that snotty stuck up bunch over at Tuscalooser! Are these big Power 5 schools like LSU, Clemson, Nebraska, Tennessee, etc."lowering" themselves to play us? They might think so and if they do it pi---- me off so I won't look at any opponent as unworthy of a Troy matchup! It's kinda simple if you think about it. JMHO!

Looking through the message board for the first time this thread comes across as the most interesting. We have passive fans here and we have what appears to be one passionate fan here. It's as though I were sitting in the stands for a home football game. I picture in my mind the majority sitting at their computer wearing a Roll Tide tee shirt while showing some interest in Trojan sports, much like they do at our games. I joined here hoping to find passion. There is no fault with taking issue as to how our athletics department conducts business. The passionate Bammers and, to a much lesser extent the Aubies, do the same. As long as our student athletes go untouched anything should be open to discussion without ridicule. I closely follow our sports programs and was very dismayed to see our 2018 game with Liberty announced by the President of the United States during his Liberty commencement speech. For the record I'm also a Republican4Life and support President Donald Trump. I immediately went to or website to view future football schedules and it was not listed. However, it is now. An update to our website is not common. For some strange reason we updated our website on a Saturday. The concern with playing a Christian school certainly is not valid and did not seem to be addressed here. We've played many in the past and I hope we play many in the future. I do understand the concern for even communicating with Ian McCaw at Liberty. The same AD who played his part for the disgrace that is now Baylor University. I did not know he had landed at Liberty. Shame on them, another Christian university, for that hire. I would have thought better of them. The idea of my alma mater in discussion with them for a football series is embarrassing. It indicates we condone such. I truly hope we do not. Either way it's done so I'll continue. To the point of one person here, if we failed to dictate that the first game be played in Troy, shame on us again. If UMass agreed to the move, so be it. It was an opportunity to have a 7 home game season since becoming as FBS school. We went many years with the schedule being 5-7 home/away, finally have come to 6-6 home away, so why not show some big boy authority. We've earned it. Plenty of time remaining to fill in our 2021 schedule. And who's to say Liberty will even honor their end of the bargain. I'm still waiting for the home game for the N.C. State home and home. They started moving that around before our players got to the locker room after the game in Raleigh and it's nowhere to be found on our future schedules. I want to see Troy as a major program. That will take our athletics department performing on a level with our student athletes. Currently, they're not even close. They should hear this. They're paid enough to hear more than another "ata boy" for everything they do. All in all, thanks to our outstanding student athletes, we are being represented very well despite the lack luster leadership we employ.

To infer that you are disappointed we are playing them (Liberty) because their AD was at Baylor and part of their issues there and us playing them or discussing that possibility "is embarrassing and INDICATES WE CONDONE THE SAME"! Seriously? Should we have refused to play Louisiana because their head coach had sex with a cheerleader at his former school? Is playing them "condoning" that? When we hired Larry Blakeney he was on NCAA restriction from Auburn. Was that a improper act and was it condoning Auburn's cheating? Was hiring him condoning what Auburn did? We played FSU with Bobby Bowden after players stole shoes and was allowed to keep playing. Was that condoning theft? I just think we don't bother to research their Athletic department personnel for previous wrong doings prior to signing a home and home contract. Darn, if we do we may never get games. I just think that's a stretch as to why you don't schedule someone! He may be partially guilty but it was Baylor and since I wasn't part of the investigation and don't know his degree of personal guilt, I think penalizing Liberty for taking a former administrator from Baylor is a bit much? How many schools would that eliminate if we seriously researched each institution prior to scheduling? JMHO

All in all, thanks to our outstanding student athletes, we are being represented very well despite the lack luster leadership we employ. Welcome. It's always good to have new thoughts, ideas, and observations about TROY sports. As I read your post, I couldn't help but chuckle at the first three sentences. I can assure you, what you won't find here are "passive" fans. If the posters are sitting at their computer wearing a university shirt, I assure you the overwhelming majority of those shirts will be of the TROY variety. You will find that the posters here are passionate, whether you agree with their viewpoint, or not. Not all of us choose to be rabid about every issue that comes up. Sometimes one finds that the issue isn't worth expending energy debating. That doesn't mean we are passive, it just means that we don't want to fight and argue about every single issue brought up by every single poster. We bleed Cardinal and black and have little tolerance for Bamners and Barners. As time goes by, I think you will find that, as is often the case with first impressions, your first impression of the posters here is wrong. We are glad to have you aboard and we look forward to your contributions. Never forget, WE ARE TROJANS ONE AND ALL!

How many schools would that eliminate if we seriously researched each institution prior to scheduling? JMHO Well so much for debate without ridicule. If you read any sports articles, opinions by others, you'll find this subject a serious concern. Conference USA and the Sun Belt conference are the two most likely fits for Liberty in the near future. As we found, conference affiliation is necessary simply for a decent schedule, not to mention the perks that go with it. Conference USA is considered by most to decline making an offer, or accepting them, based solely on this hire by Liberty. With Britton Banowsky as the current commissioner, though she is stepping down, the consensus is a female commissioner would never allow it. Probably a good consensus as well as an excellent decision. To continue, Louisiana is not a university. It is a university system. Lafayette's head coach having sex with a cheerleader is similar but not quite on the same level as the Baylor fiasco, plus we were already contractually bound through the conference. And not only did we condone the actions of Larry Blakeney, we defended it by going to the NCAA with Auburn regarding the violation. We faced possible NCAA probation for this. Another self imposed slap in the face that should never have happened which I expressed to the school at the time. Coach Blakeney did an excellent job his first twenty years, then considered himself larger than the university for his last five, thus the crash and burn. But we could have backed off this stance, hired Joe Blow, and had 25 years not living with the constant reminder of this hire. You're way out there on the tennis shoes. At least be realistic. As I said, I'd simply like to see the best interest of Troy University and our student athletes be at the heart of decisions made by our athletics department. We had that with Johnny Williams and haven't had it since. What's the problem with making these points? Maybe someone there will realize we have supporters who actually watch what is done, care about what is done, and a change for the better will come about.

We should have some clout by now. And if we're going to sign home and home agreements with Power 5 conference schools it should be done with the first game in Troy. We set ourselves up for the pay rather than the play. I prefer games. I trust you do as well. If this can't be achieved then stick to the Group of 5 where the odds are much better. Even then come out with a home game first at least half the time.

If we played only teams that didnt have at least one scumbag on staff or on the team, there would be no one for us to play. Let it go Francis, it will be ok. That's only part of my problem. For us to have to go to a first year FBS Independent team to me is embarrassing. We should have listed some things we wanted out of it, and not just kept our mouth shut and take it. Our AD has very little interest in the best for our athletics, and is only interested in bringing his friends up from Southern Miss which is sad. We need people who truly bleed cardinal and black. I really doubt that our AD was told the biz by Liberty's AD... McClain isn't someone that's going to rollover at another school's behest. I don't see the big deal. It's Liberty. They'll be FBS. So who gives a crap. Neal Brown and the Men of Troy don't give a crap, I can assure you. Their mission will be to stomp them into the ground and notch another win. Troy's motto used to be "anyone, anywhere, anytime." Should that exclude Liberty now?

Since when did having a difference of opinion on a subject constitute "ridicule"? Geez!!!! Come on, you proposed the concept that they were not worthy of our competition, not me. I just see that attitude as elitism, the same thing we blame the "big boys" of having toward us. I would suggest if you don't want to hear others opinions don't share on this site! Glad you joined, enjoy the debates!

Go undefeated or with just one loss and no one will care whether it was UMASS or Liberty.

I have no problem with Liberty. Great school, facilities and large alumni base. And if you think they are a push over because they are moving up from FCS I remind you what happened to us the first year GA Southern and APP St moved. Up....they both beat us. Look back to 1992. Troy went 10-1, our only loss was to Liberty. They pack their stadium, beautiful campus and facilities. I think it's a great deal and they have a good alumni base in this area. My chiropractor was the QB for Liberty in 1992 when they beat Troy so I'm calling him to start the wager today. Go Troy

Let's just do this for right now, focus on the 2017 season and winning a Sunbelt Conference Championship. I know the Players and Coaches are.

As well they should...but we're not them. Why should we limit ourselves to the same?

Well so much for debate without ridicule. Since when did having a difference of opinion on a subject constitute "ridicule"? Geez!!!! Come on, you proposed the concept that they were not worthy of our competition, not me. Glad you joined, enjoy the debates! I never said Liberty was not worthy of our competition. At this point in time I do not believe we should be in discussions with them while employing the likes of McCaw. It's not being elitist, it's a choice of dealing with individuals of integrity. I also said I don't believe any conference will touch Liberty with him on board. Many sports writers agree, right or wrong, so why should we? Plenty of other schools to schedule series with. Our athletics department didn't show the scheduled series until it came out via Liberty on Saturday and then only on our future schedules. No article about it on our site prior or since as we typically see. It appears our athletics department was trying to hide it. Are they ashamed? I'm about doing my part to advance Troy University thru athletics and academics. This is the only reason for my input. The passive have quickly outnumbered the passionate here. Typing in all caps and using lots of exclamations just makes you loud. I see what this message board consists of. Thanks for stepping up and ensuring I wasted less than 24 hours here.

Congrats on unseating TroyStet as the most annoying complainer on the board. Apparently you do not know the difference in stating facts in the hopes of improving our program versus complaining. This board is incredible. Just like sitting in the stands. No one gives a rip. Can you bend over and say "Thank you sir, may I have another?"

This board is incredible. Just like sitting in the stands. No one gives a rip. Can you bend over and say "Thank you sir, may I have another?" So are you proposing that only the "sins" committed at Baylor deserved banishment from further employability or social contact or hiring someone affiliated with the "sins" at Baylor also deserve it? Since he was not charged with crimes by any authority or slammed with sanctions by the NCAA, by who's authority do you propose he be branded untouchable as well as anyone who might choose to associate with him? I don't know the guy from Adam but I would think the NCAA would put the mark of the beast on him if he deserved it! Can you assure me Troy didn't schedule schools who hired questionable people back when Williams was AD or since? I just can't imaging judging another schools integrity of employment ever enters into whether or not we might play them. The frustration began with the fact that we were going there first rather than them coming here. Now it seems the debate has switched to personnel choices. My only hiring concern as a fan of Troy is the quality and character of WHOM WE HIRE!

Take a deep breath my friend, we're not going to hell for playing a school that hired a ex-Baylor AD and CAPS, in my post, means emphasis not LOUD, no more no less. This is a very odd issue to be in such a tizzy over. Maybe it's something personal on your part. It's all just opinions, life goes on! My only worry about playing Liberty at home or there is will we beat the heck out of them or not! Peace!
