Sooo.... Is anyone else watching the complete and utter meltdown that Troy is having against Alabama? Troy was leading 9-5 in the 7th inning. It's now 9-11 in the 9th inning with Alabama leading.
This pitching staff sucks. Except for Childress and Skinner. Where did we get these pitchers from? Charles Henderson Middle School?
This season has been a complete disappointment. The talent level has faded over the past 3 to 4 seasons.

Very happy they pulled it out. Great win over Bama.
Still, this pitching staff needs to get their crap together. We've got some veteran guys that aren't showing their experience. They've allowed 7 runs per game in the past seven games, and that makes it very hard to win any baseball game.

Oh man I missed this one but I caught the replay. What an outstanding win for the program. Didn't we also beat them in a regional in Tallahassee a few years back?

Beat them twice in regionals....No big deal to beat the elephants in baseball...Troy has done that many times...The way they won last night though was exiting/electric I don't care who the opponent was.

Beat them twice in regionals....No big deal to beat the elephants in baseball...Troy has done that many times...The way they won last night though was exiting/electric I don't care who the opponent was. I specifically remember one of those wins that occurred about twenty years ago. Freddie Kitchens, who was also 'Bama's starting QB, was a reliever for them. At some point in the middle of the game, they got him up in the pen. At that time, the visitor's bullpen had only a single chain length fence (or maybe it was a net) separating it from who ever wanted to hang onto it and harass the pitcher warming up. A couple of inebriated TROY fans were hanging the fence and riding Kitchens pretty hard. One of them repeatedly referred to him as "Fat Freddie". After some time, Kitchens tired of the constant barrage and walked over to the fence. After a brief exchange, he proceeded to punch the hanger on in the nose, through the fence. I know this story to be true because my two sons and their friend was standing there watching Kitchens warm up. I'm surprised there wasn't a huge fight, but cooler heads (word that night was that FB player, Gerald DeBartalaben was key) and a fence prevented an escalation. Anyway, Kitchens got in a punch, but we got the win, and at the time it was HUGE win.

Just for the record there's 8 freshmen pitchers on this team.

You also conveniently leave out the fact that there are 5 senior pitchers and 4 junior pitchers on the team... and all of the senior pitchers are struggling to put together consistent quality games except for Skinner. I should've known you'd get an itch to reply to my post. Try again Hemi.

I don't want to post but I can shed some info hopefully. I have a former teamate and Troy Alum who is a baseball agent and works Florida and Latin America heavily. We have discussed baseball a great deal. Pitching is the hardest commodity to recruit for colleges...period. He said pitchers are the only position that a scout will actually attend a HS game on. If a kid has velocity and movement he is on the radar of everyone, especially the Top D1 programs and the pro scouts. He said if a kid gets high level D1 offers they use that for leverage in the pro draft and the pros throw big money at them to get them to go pro. The pro teams want them in their development as quick as possible, especially the smaller market teams like the Rays, Marlins, Reds etc. who know they will eventually lose them to free agency and they want to get the most use out of them before that happens. That leaves colleges fighting over kids that maybe need some development or the kids throwing in the mid 80's. Position players are much easier and far more abundant. Pitching will always win games and will always be the hottest commodity. I don't envy coaches trying to find pitching, especially mid major D1 like Troy. I know it is frustrating but it is easier said than done getting great pitching staffs. Go Troy

Go Troy How does ULL and Coastal Carolina do it then? ULL has had the best ERA average over the past 10 years in the Sun Belt. They always seem to have some really good pitching lineups. Not arguing with your statement, I see what you're saying. Just wish we had more Shane McCane's or Tyler Rays on the team every year, which of course is extremely hard unless you're Arizona State or Texas.

Andrew Crane looked mighty good on the mound yesterday and Austin Crook is 4-1. I believe our pitching talent is in the upper third of the conference. When I have a minute I will check the numbers but my intuition tells me they are also in the top third.

4th in the conference in both ERA and opponents' batting average. One one-hundredth of a point behind the defending national champions in ERA. Also second best in runs allowed, earned runs allowed and best in walks allowed. That should pretty much cover the important numbers for pitching!

it is not really pitching from what i saw this weekend. poor base running and inability to capitalize off of runners on 2nd & 3rd or bases loaded has a lot to do with it
