As CNB states, we are losing key players at many positions, Offense and D. I'm finding it tough to get "kool-ade" excited about next year for several additional reasons.
1) 10-3 is tough to beat. Incremental improvement is more challenging than coming of off 4-8. We are now a target for teams, esp Sunbelt teams.
2) The D improved most all season, the O plateaued at/about the App game, never seemed to progress beyond that. Injuries? All teams have injuries. Depth? Probably a problem this year, better next year?? Predictability? As the 2016 season progressed other defenses seemed to "have our number" IE stAte and GaSo. Play calling/execution seemed less effective. Gotta get that ball downfield and convert 3rd downs.
3) Until we replace graduating Srs on the D with as good as, or better, can't get excited there either.
4) I beg to differ with Coach on a couple of his individual player assessments. I understand his reasoning but we need much more competition at several key positions. Several key players became complacent as our season progressed.
On the other hand, this coaching staff has proven to be hard-working, hands-on and adept at recruiting; all sorely lacking the previous 4-5 years!
I suppose the best I can feel is cautiously optimistic?? About 7-5 or 8-4 optimistic at this point. Spring and Fall camps will be key.
