As part of our post season celebration, let's take a fun trip down memory lane. Post the most unforgettable memory you have of TROJAN football, be it from last year or 1953, it doesn't matter. What I'm looking for isn't necessarily important, game changing plays but those memories that, no matter what, you can't get out of your head. I'll start, play along for some fun.
The last time the stadium was expanded, the construction began before the end of the season. The last home game was played In the midst of a couple of days of heavy rain. There was mud everywhere, including the areas between the playing field and the stands. The southeast corner, which is where the band sits now, was a quagmire. I remember one particular play where our receiver, I believe it was Jason Samples, dove for a pass in that corner of the endzone. Once he hit the ground, he began to slide in the mud (SE AL red clay mud) and slid all the way to the wall. When he stood up, you could no longer see that his jersey had a number on it, let alone, tell what that number was. I don't think I've ever seen anyone that muddy and that image is forever burned in my brain. BTW, I THINK he caught the pass for a TD.

I think that one comes in #2 for me. I remember seeing a picture taken from the endzone on the play J Carter broke for a big TD run. It was after the storm and there was so much standing water on the field he was kicking up rooster tails. That was a great game.

Lots of vivid memories but the one that sticks out to me is winning at half time 3-0 against the mighty FSU Seminoles...Their crowd was in shock and the SOTS drowned out the Seminole war chant pretty much the whole game.

That's was a gudn! I was invited to sit in a suite belonging to BB family. I rebeber it was like the 2nd or 3rd play and we ran some reverse pass play for bout 40! I started screaming and quickly realized I could possibly maintain composure so I excused myself out to the outdoor deck area where I watched the whole game. However I did maintain composure long enough to walk back in from time to time to top off my bourbon!!

Hands Down it's a series of events for DT84. And that is The Miracle In Murfreesboro that led to the first bowl win: Those are my two as well. First year I was a fan. I remember the FSU and GT games very well. I remember that FSU game because I spent it in their (FSU) letterman's sky box ( it's NICE) since my son in law played baseball at FSU. As we walked across the parking lot going in he was on the phone with a friend saying, "John, when this gets to be a laugher, We are going home to watch the Ohio State game"! It was a boisterous place inside when we arrived but it got quieter and quieter and quieter as the game progressed. I was not allowed to wear ANY Troy color in that room so in quiet protest I wore all white! At the beginning of the 4th quarter I leaned over to my son in law and I asked, " Don, is it a laugher yet" and the lady in front of me turned around and said, " you're not for FSU are you"? I said, "no mam, usually I am but tonight I'm not". She asked where I went to school and I said, "this school you are playing tonight". She just looked at me in disbelief and said, "y'all are going to win this damn thing"! Best night at a game ever I remember. Having played and been a coach I always respected Bobby Bowden for his philosophies but his comment to the press after that game tainted my respect for him that still last. Not once did he offer a congratulations to a group of players (Troys) that played their butts off but rather said, "if we had lost this game it would have been the most embarrassing lost of my career"! I sat down and wrote him a letter that I never mailed but I've never gotten over his selfishness and lack of respect for an opponents efforts against him and his team. His Christian philosophies took a leave of absence that night!

Many great memories but the Eric Thomas catch in the endzone to secure a comeback victory is special to me. It was the first time both of my children watched the entire game and they went nuts when he made the catch. My daughter got his autograph. She was so mad that he didn't make espn top plays. Life long fans were made that day.

Since no one has brought it up yet. The 2006 Miracle in Murphfreesboro. I decided to drive to Tennessee during Thanksgiving break on a whim with a couple of friends and watched the most epic comeback in Trojan history. I remember this guy with an air horn sitting behind the SOTS being a real jerk (because I can't use a more fitting phrase on this board) and shutting him down. I'll never forget the disappointment on the MUTS fans who were getting ready 5 minutes earlier to tear down the goal post.

Not that this is a top five moment, but that 4th and 6 against APP STATE this year was certainly a great moment.

Favorite Troy Athletics moment was sharing my first beer with Hemi. The rest is history, even if it's a little blurry at times.

Lots of great memories as a player! As years pass ... I remember less of the actual games (remember losses more than wins) ... but the top moments always have had to do with the fans and the environment. 87 UCF for semis. At least 25-30,000 there ... but I remember out group of maybe 500?? I think that was the most Troy fans I'd seen ... at a game outside AL! I have a great pic of when we went over as a team to cheer/thank the fans at the end ... Troy folks were about all that were left. Then, 08 New Orleans Bowl vs SMiss. That was my first bowl. To walk into the Superdome with my son ... and see Thousands of Troy folks ... that was amazing! And then this year ... seeing that student section in the 4th quarter of the App St. game!!! (and the crowd at Dollar Gen Bowl)!! Amazing. As someone mentioned about the bowl crowd ... we are a legit DI program!! Amazing how far we've come ... and excited to see how far we will go!! So PROUD to be a Troy Trojan!! Happy New Year!

Troy vs Marshall in 2003. So much hype around this game, even students with no interest in FB talked about this game all week.

Most vivid best memory: Scoring that first touchdown against Nebraska to take the 7-0 lead. Wow. What a feelin.
Most vivid worst memory: The Montana 70-7 blowout and CLB's halftime response: "I don't know! You got any ideas?!"

OUR first year as season ticket holders ... who would have every thought it could get BETTER than this Ditto this. So impressed that night we became season ticket holders in 2005 and Warriors shortly thereafter! Memories of Omar and JJ are close ties for 2nd!! That 74-71 (or whatever, I lost count!) at Neyland Stadium indelibly burned into memory as well!! crazy-old-man-dance <That would be me! That 3rd quarter meltdown in Baton Rouge vividly memorable.... 03-banghead

Most vivid worst memory: The Montana 70-7 blowout and CLB's halftime response: "I don't know! You got any ideas?!" I remember that Montana game as well. Pratt Lyons had destroyed anyone who touched the ball all season. Our guys hit that frozen field and could barely walk on it, let alone pursue a ball handler. I'm not sure Pratt made a tackle all day. After that, his promising pro career was cut short due to a neck injury sustained, I believe, in a car accident. I remember hearing someone say in the tailgate area about Pratt, "he would be arrested on the street for doing what he does on the field". A tough one, he was.
