Future is bright ...next step Dollar General This is probably not the right place for this but I'll ask anyway. Coach Brown said we are handicapped because we are STILL WORKING WITH REDUCED SCHOLARSHIPS. We have 75 instead the 83 (or 85 I'm not sure) every one else gets. Anyone know WHY?

I think it goes back to the non academic qualified we had signed. It used to be if you gambled and signed one and they didn't then get qualified you lost that scholarship for the remainder of that players would have been eligibility. That's the only thing I can think of. I don't remember us ever been on any probation

Defections, non qualifiers, players being removed from the team, over a period of time that adds up or in this case subtracts from the total number. You can only sign 25 a year so it takes some time to get that number back up.

I believe it depends on different variables such as their stranding academically when they leave, and if you lose 30 in a given year you can only replace 25 of those.

No one said fire Neal Brown, but let's look at the post in context. CKE is our offensive coordinator, but CNB calls the plays. The post in question was in a thread entitled "Tony Franklin for Offensive Coordinator" and read "bring him in and let him run the offense". This was after multiple people had complained specifically about the play calling, which again, is done by CNB. The DIRECT result of hiring CTF to "run the offense" would be to remove the play calling duties from CNB, effectively FIRING him from from those duties. While no one has directly called for the firing of CNB, the hiring of someone else to "run the offense" in effect amounts to a firing. Not a total dismissal, but a removal of duties. Personally, I don't think that's the answer. NB is an outstanding head coach or at least to this point in his career. Trying to do that and call plays is a very very difficult task at this level. My personal opinion is the worrying about the changing game plan as the game progresses based on game trends specifically might put a load on any coaches thought process. The head coach can't take the time we are on defense to just worry about the offense, he has to be in tune and aware of the defense as well. A good OC can give 100% if his attention to his offense while we are on defense. My thought is it's asking a LOT to have one guy handling the head coaching game responsibilities and calling plays as well. As I regurgitate this season, I am VERY pleased with where we are. Our defense was fantastic most of the time. My ONLY negative observation other than two unemotional games that should have made players sky high, and it's only MY opinion, is our offense was very unimaginative. We could, at times go NASCAR and when we did it was usually very successful but that was seemingly done only when we needed a score really badly. It seemed everyone knew when Chunn was running the ball giving a great runner a tough job and our passing game seemed to never develop past bubble screens and sideline passes. Silvers needs to take the next step before next fall, he's the teams leader. It's true, a lot of Silvers passes were dropped and that must change if we are to take that next step. Where was our misdirection in the running game, fakes to Chunn and keeping the ball, etc? They were rare. If Neil could turn the offense over to an offensive genius like he has the defense to Vic, then he could concentrate on the overall picture. I just think it would make a better setup for him and the team ....but as I said, that's just my opinion and take that and a glass of water, you have nothing on your mind or nothing in your stomach. :-) Whatever happens, I REALLY look forward to next year, we ought to be a force to deal with! Or a new face and ideas at OC that can assist CNB in the plan and execution (instead of bubble screen left and bubble screen right that the current OC has as a plan)

Or a new face and ideas at OC that can assist CNB in the plan and execution (instead of bubble screen left and bubble screen right that the current OC has as a plan) Taking a less emotional look at this year than we have the tendency to do following a big game, this fan sees a solid foundation for next year with a lot of players with experience returning. My ONLY improvement thought centers around our offensive play selection and I say that without knowing any limitations we may have that we as fans are not aware of. I don't know whose responsibility play calling is. It's a lot to ask of a head coach. Don't know if there is another that attempts to go that but there may be some. Usually that's fine due to limited staff in smaller programs. I want to see our receivers catch more catchable passes and that comes with experience and coaching and we have both so that ought to be doable. Vic is another blessing as is most all our assistants. We are blessed with a unique group of professionals. Let's beat Ohio (it won't be easy) and recruit like there is no tomorrow. 2017 could be special as was 2016!

We have been bland and predictable on offense since the start of the stAte game.
Final drive Saturday we are throwing vertically at will. If DT remembers right 1st down 1:08 left in the red zone we throw horizontal and get squat, then we run horizontally and get squat and an injury, we waste a TO then take 2 shots not at the end zone.
Why not throw vertically to the end zone 4 times? 1 of 4 would have probably worked. They sure were earlier in the drive.

IMO only, I'd guess the O plateaued mid-season; that is the O made all the progress that could be made given the Coaches, player potential, competition etc, etc. As the season progressed, it was apparent that the competition was catching on, and our O was not progressing or adjusting to game realities.
This is a stretch goal for the staff by December 23rd, and planning for next season.
On the other hand, the D played well enough to win EVERY game this year!! KUDOS to the D, and the coaching staff for a fine effort!!
