Do people really pay these prices? $179 for a Friday night? FYI: You can stay here (Hampton on Pensacola Beach) on the same date for $170.I thought about coming up for the Basketball game on Friday and App State on Saturday, but quickly changed my mind. Surf Report:The water is crystal clear! The surf is a small shin high line coming out of the East. You could teach a kid to surf on a big board today. The winds are coming out of the NE at 5-7 mph causing for offshore conditions. It is 80° on the beach. Go outside!

Small town with limited, nice hotels, plus a football team that's winning will drive the price up in a hurry. Last season that room was $99. It may come down if it isn't filled closer to game time. Same thing happens in Boone, Statesboro, and of course Clemson unless you book really early.

And like it has been said numerous times before, if you are willing to drive a short distance the prices come down quite a bit.
Ozark, Dothan, Enterprise and Montgomery all offer rooms to meet any budget.
Also, if you don't need the "luxury" of Hampton or Marriott, the EconoLodge, Quality Inn and Days Inn are very cheap on that particular weekend.

As a Dothan resident, one of the "fringe" benefits of being a TROJAN is the proximity to the game. It's 55 minutes from gate to front door. Two trips to Starkville and one to Athens saw me stay farther away. The walk to the car was almost as time consuming as the drive to Columbia and Madison, respectively. I say this to say a stay in Dothan or Montgomery is better than a road trip. Given that, I wouldn't want to pay a rate jacked up that much for the convenience of staying in Troy.

We usually stay at the Microtell in Ozark. Extremely nice hotel, exceptionally clean and very quiet. Rates run from $59-$79. I have never had a bad stay there. I have also stayed at the Super 8 in Troy on a solo trip. $45-$55. Decent hotel but not great.
