If anybody on here knows me personally, y'all know I'm as passionate a Troy fan as you will find. I stand and yell/cheer almost the entire game.
Last night at the game, me and my friends were told to sit down and shut up a couple of times, my friends (Hemi and Mrs. Hemi) finally had enough and said something back to the complaining folks, to the effect that we pay just as much as you do for these tickets, we can stand and cheer as much as we want.
Were we in the wrong? Me, personally I don't think so, but it's all about perspective. I'm just tired of being "looked down upon" and punished for being a loud and proud Troy fan and supporter.
I think I'm going to call Steve Stroud and see what his perspective is about this situation, cause I've about had it, if I can't enjoy the game, be loud and proud, I might as well stay at the tailgate area and just listen/watch the game and not even worry about going in the stadium and "wasting" money on my tickets.
Opinions and suggestions welcomed.

No one sits around me other than friends because I get so into the games. It's a big stadium, they can find another seat

I don't condone standing the entire game. I do think it's appropriate to stand up on 3rd down, especially when the announcer asks you stand up and make some noise. I will be very respectful until you tell me to sit down and shut up.
On a side note, I was right. The call was overturned.

You are there to support our team and that means letting the team hear your support. Don't allow anyone at anytime or anywhere ever stop your enthusiasm. Fanatic is right that these folks can find a quiet area of the stadium for themselves so that THEY are not bothering those around them. I do not know Mr. Possum personally but I read these posts daily and, from the content of his posts, I know we could use a lot more folks like him who truly care about and support our Trojans.

I will stand when asked and sometimes when not but I also sort of lean over with hands on knees so I don't obstruct those who "wish to stand a. Great deal less". Keep cheering and know if you are in the front row or row 26 if you stand all the time it can obstruct the view...besides getting up and down is good excercise...but never wanting you to jump and cheer is ridiculous

I keep meaning to come introduce myself over at the alumni tailgate but it never works out that way. I usually spend 6+ hours of tailgating doing whatever the kids want to do. Lots of cornhole, bookstore, bouncy houses, cheerleader autographs, and hanging with the sorority girls. Next game... By the way, if you want to cheer then stand up and cheer. If you want a quiet game experience then there are plenty of seats where you can be alone. Do your thing and enjoy your day.

I doubt, however, that those who desire a quiet game experience frequent our little neighborhood here. I suspect that most of the folks utilizing this board are the ones guilty of destroying the quietness of a nice fall evening.

I suspect that most of the folks utilizing this board are the ones guilty of destroying the quietness of a nice fall evening. I will say this and shut up. I TOTALLY support fans enjoying the game experience any legal and respectful way they chose. I'm 75 and a few months and God has been very very good to me health wise and I can stand and cheer with the best of you (well, let's say most of you) but I have a LOT of friends not so fortunate. I would simply hope, should you realize you have fans behind you like that, that you would respect their INABILITIES because their love for the game and Troy does not take a back seat to anyone and they want to enjoy the game experience as well. I also promise you that if God would give them back their health and/or their youth they would give everyone a run for your money cheering. I know because I knew them back then. Ok, you can say take their butts to a quitter place or to a less populated place and leave us alone because the better seats belong to the boisterous crowd. Most of these folks would love to be able to join all of you, believe me but they can't so hopefully becoming elderly or handicapped in some way is not becoming a fan issue in our stadium. We need every butt we can get, even the old ones (and they often have the money:-))We could argue this all day and there will be NO WINNERS so there's no point! Standing and cheering is a viable and important part of a game experience and I love doing it even if in a much more limited way than some. All they (senior's) ask is just be cognizant of those behind you as to their inabilities and meet them half way. If those complaining meet none of the above criteria, it's a different issue. Thanks for letting me say a word for the fans that were out here cheering when most of you were nursing or still in elementary school. The ones who supported this university before we reached a point where we try to forget Troy was not always DI but was Troy Normal, TSC or TSU. When we were the Red Wave not the Trojans. Many of these folks have put in their time standing and hollering for Troy when there was not much to stand and holler about. They will love you for considering them almost as much as they love Troy, I promise! JMHO!

There was no profanity involved and no vulgarity. The people that want to cheer, high five, and sing the fight song have every bit the same right to do so, as those that can't or won't do it. This isn't about standing all game or even standing 20% of the time.

I support standing up and yelling like a crazy person, however I dont like it when people stand the entire game. I stood the entire game when I was a student but now I like to sit down and then stand up when the situation warrants it. Third downs, goal lines etc. good plays etc. etc. Have fun, enjoy the game, be considerate of others and GO TROJANS!!

Seems like this comes up every year. 1-- Some of us are a little old. I can stand the entire game but I don't like to. I will go up and down on exciting plays. But I've also found out that I can yell while seated. 2-- I've been all over the world. The good ole US of A is one of the few countries that doesn't honor old people and we certainly have lost whatever we once had of manners. If an older person was behind me and asked me to sit down so that they may also enjoy the game, I would sit down. If a younger couple ask me to sit down I would also sit. As a fan and supporter I want everyone to enjoy the game and I certainly don't want to scare away the casual fan with rude or unseemly behavior towards them, or their attire, or my bad manners. 3-- If I felt that I just had to stand up I would offer to exchange seats with those sitting behind me. If I absolutely had to stand because it was so important to me to enjoy the game, I'd go to a section where that was the routine. 4-- Why is your standing so important that it spoils the game for others who can't or just don't want to. Isn't that selfish?

Isn't that selfish? I was once intolerant of fans who refused to stand and cheer for TROY. And I've been extremely frustrated with fans who have told me to sit down and shut up. And I couldn't stand to hear other teams infernal battle cries in an arena they refuse to play in. I think the biggest issue is the method of delivery more than the message. No matter what I can tell everyone this...unless we UNITE as a fanbase TROY will NEVER be what we all hope it will be. Be accepting of new fans even if they yell something for another team who refuses to play TROY. Ask questions of those around you at the games and get to know them before lashing out. Invite them to be a part of your fandom even if they never reach the level of devotion you possess. Just my 2 pennies.

Possum, much like you and many others, I am proud to be a Trojan and am thrilled that we have reason to want to stand. I was one of the few in my section to stand up mainly during 3rd downs, big plays, etc. and will continue to do this during both good and bad times at the Vet. I won't stand just to be standing but just can't help myself at certain stages of the game. We should all show our Trojan pride and cheer for our team in the way that we're most comfortable.
By the way, it was good seeing you and talking with you in the tailgate area prior to the game.
Go TROY!
