Hopefully we can recruit the west coast some in the future. When you look at the top programs they almost always have some players from California or Arizona. Florida which has won the last 2 national titles has 7 California players. The travel ball and high school ball in CA is light years ahead of the rest of the country although Florida is rapidly closing the gap

The niche for Sunbelt teams is to find the super talented kids that are under the radar. It takes a lot more effort for sure, but some kids can't afford to travel every weekend across the country, so the coaches have to look for hidden gems. Softball recruiting starts very young. They have 2020 kids already committing to the big schools like Alabama, Arizona, Oklahoma, etc. Troy has to find the late bloomers.

Louisiana is consistantly a top 10 program and USA is a top 25 program yearly. I think we could break into that soon.

Have some experience in this area as I coached travel ball for 6 years and have two former players playing D1, three that played Juco and two playing D2. You are correct. If you want to get looked at by the big schools you have to play ASA Gold and travel out of state a lot. The girls who could not afford it played travel in Florida at some showcases but the coaches at these were mainly Juco and some D2. Nobody scouts a high school game. It is tough to find these under the radar players for sure

There were two girls on South I knew that both left after he left. One because he was the reason they went there and two they did not want to play on a all female staff. One is staring at Auburn, the other transferred here to play at CFC, made Juco all American and just signed with South Carolina-Upstate in the Atlanic Sun. I am still not a fan of female staffs. 95% of successful programs have a male head coach with a baseball background

USA has taken another huge hit this year. The best hitter transferred to Missouri in the SEC and the best pitcher McGill transferred to a JUCO in Ocala. It is almost like USA is right on the cusp of making it, and then every year the best players transfer out to a Power 5. I think they are using USA as a tryout for the Power 5. USA is doing a great job recruiting, and they would be sitting pretty if they still had all of those good players. ULL has always been good in softball. A lot of softball experts say that Lotief is the best coach in the nation at taking below average talent and turning them into great hitters. ULL has to fill in some gaps at pitching this year though, so we will see if the offense is enough. I am hoping Troy will be able to make a regional this year.
