But what bothered me seeing the student section basically empty is if anyone should stand by these players through good times and bad it's their fellow classmates. It was an embarrassment at their absence. If they are on campus for Pete sake why not go? I guess I've aged to the point that I can't relate to today's students and their rational. "If they are on campus for Pete sake why not go?"
When we arrived on campus it looked like we were in the middle of a Fall Break or Christmas Break - it was noticeable the absence of CARS before you even noticed the absence of FANS and STUDENTS.
All I can say is they missed a great game!!! That's their loss.

Losing doesn't excite people and we laid a egg at the hyped black out game and lost to Idaho. The last three games we have been on fire, hopefully this game gets the excitement back on campus. Remember none of these students were here during the championship runs, all they have experienced is Troy losing. Hopefully this gets the excitement back. I 100% agree we can beat Ga Southern the way we are playing and if we beat them I also think we win out which gives us a outside shot at a bowl game. This should get students excited But what bothered me seeing the student section basically empty is if anyone should stand by these players through good times and bad it's their fellow classmates. It was an embarrassment at their absence. If they are on campus for Pete sake why not go? I guess I've aged to the point that I can't relate to today's students and their rational. I'm not embarrassed by someone else's choice to participate or not. That's THEIR choice, they missed a good game! ~~~~+~~~~ Some things never change despite "today's" rationale etc etc. 1) Folks, old and young alike, relate to winning. Everyone loves a winner! No one likes losing.. hasn't changed. 2) Folks react in very diverse ways to the same stimuli, situation, event etc. Hasn't changed, we're just humans folks.
3) People support their passions in varied and different ways, despite being passionate and supportive for the same cause. Go no further than this message board, some quietly (or not!) feel that positive comments show support, others feel that open criticism (and in fact very "factual' and "negatively" perceived at times) is a show of support. Both positions are "right" for that given fan. Either approach can have positive/negative effects on those who choose to read here. Hasn't changed. 4) We disagree. Even when Troy Football was kicking butt and winning championships, discussion was frequently about why we only had 18,000 butts in seats, who was counting and why were students leaving at halftime. Why didn't the "locals" turn out in droves to support the local Trojan team. Hasn't changed. (and now, if we build a $25 mill end zone facility folks will flock to The Vet for Troy football games??) 5) Troy University is not, and most likely will never be located in a weekend destination locale with vast family shopping, dining or outdoor activities that attract lots of overnight visitors. Ditto for opportunities that would keep college students in town over a weekend. Hasn't changed. 6) Relatively small and middle >> middle lower income Alumni. Last I had the facts, Troy-State/University had over 100,000++ alums. We dont' have large numbers of wealthy supporters to fund athletic initiatives. Hasn't changed. WHOA, just realized this is a Troy/ULM GameDay thread..... probably be moved elsewhere, stay tuned! (Hasn't changed.)

I thought the campus seemed somewhat dead too but haven't been to a game in a while so wasn't sure if it was just me or what. Maybe the weather played a factor. I'd expect a few more at next weeks though. The buzz and excitement is sure to spread.

Announced attendance over 18000....I guess the NCAA now allows attendance to counted not as butts in seats but butt cheeks in seat.....double you know.....actuall attendance in my humble opinion 11204 I bet there wasn't 8,000 there. the press box side was empty as well

Omg... If you think there was only 8,000 there either 1) your stupid or 2) you were not there and only saw what the tv showed you in the 3rd quarter when it was raining.
I told my buddy, troyfootball05 on this board even before the numbers officially came out if I had to guess we had between 17-18k there.... I was dead on.

Coach Brown spoke to a or a couple of fraternities tonight - I am sure he asked them to show up next week - glad he is reaching out to the student body - always working That's why I referred to the fact that the lack of student attendance was "embarrassing"! This coach is doing his level best to try to MAKE STUDENTS FEEL WANTED. He doesn't have to go ask for their participation but he does. It the students university, their teams so therefore their pride and support should be returned win or lose but that's my thoughts only. He's putting out the effort to get them to feel "appreciated" (can't believe that that is necessary these days but times are a changin'!) They need to understand, he is s coach, not a miracle worker. With his efforts and our/their support we will become a factor again and I'm thinking sooner than later!

I honestly thought maybe they moved the student section.
But as we start winning...they will return. And CNB has the right attitude with his approach to student participation. He will win them over.

The students had to study and then there was the light rain on their hair......and the threat of rain.....and and and ........and when the game was after the first quarter.....I want to thank the 203 of them that stayed.....yes the opening is a smart aleck statement. Guess there were better things to do......think more will be there this weekend.................Heck it is still better than the last few years.

Maybe I am stupid for even responding to a post like this. Once again we have the anonymity of a message board where it's considered safe to insult someone. I didn't watch it on TV, I was there. I was walking on the field with my fellow brothers and sisters, of the various services of the military. Now someone like you probably thinks we are all stupid for even serving when we could have spent our youth drinking and making fun of someone (and in your case probably smoking dope) who in your opinion wasn't smart enough to stay out of the military. I had a pretty good view of the stadium from the 50 yard line. It was empty and all the stupid people around were commenting how empty the stadium was and how few were marching this year. I'm sure there were lots of people at the concessions along with people like you, who doesn't feel that you ever have to treat anyone with respect, but I doubt there were 10,000. I don't want to get out of bounds with the moderators so I won't comment any more, must less say what I really feel. So I'll give you the last word to belittle me, call me names, or you can even try to destroy my character. Believe me I've heard it before, after Vietnam I went to college and there were plenty like you around back then as well.

Much respect and admiration to Trojanfan2. My father was a veteran of Viet Nam as well as Korea. As a child that spent a lot of time around "Top" and his troops, I never knew of the pressures and the sacrifices they endured until I was old enough. Happy Veterans' Day to all that have and will earn that distinction!

I wasn't at the game but had several friends that were and the consensus was there was less than 10,000 in the stands. To have the 17K-18K stated their would have to be well over half the stadium filled. They sent pics and I've seen pics of the stands. Home side alone was maybe 1/10 filled.

There was not 18k at the stadium on Saturday. Whoever believes that was whiskey drunk or under the influence of medical green stuff and seeing double.

Why must some people argue every point?
