What's everyone's thoughts on this game?
After watching our game with NCSU in person I feel a little more confident about the season. CSU is a good FCS program. (Ranked in the 30s?) I don't know a lot about these guys but I've heard they return a lot from last year and are a MUCH better program than Abilene Christian who at our low point last season we lost to.
Hopefully we get a good crowd this weekend for the game. As this one is very important.

I think it worrys most everyone.
I do however have confidence coach brown and staff will have them prepared for this game... They won't be over looking this one.

Charleston Southern ended the season ranked #27 FCS and I think Abilene ended in the 60's or 70's in the ratings. They are much better than Abilene, but I think we're much better now than we were at that time when we lost to them. They return 38 of 44 on the two deep including senior QB Austin Brown who was UABs QB in 2013 when they came to Troy and lost on a blocked kick in overtime (31-34). They took Vanderbilt down to the wire and beat Liberty. If you recall, Liberty beat Appalachian State if anyone recalls our score versus the Mountaineers. CSU runs a variant of the triple option, which will be interesting as we continue to install our defense and ready them for sunbelt play. Troy finished 121st in rush defense last season, where CSU finished extremely high in the FCS rush offense rankings and had 317 yards rushing Thursday night to open the season. Troy's rush defense was stellar at times versus the Wolfpack, but still needs a lot of work. The good news is that they won't have near the talent on the offensive line and running back that the wolfpack had. I watched their game versus North Greenville on Thursday (maybe I was the only one) and I wasn't overly impressed. North Greenville is a D-II team (below FCS) rated in the 80's or 90's in D-II football. That's pretty bad. They were knocking on the door to have 21 points on CSU's defense before the half before they fumbled a high snap and CSU returned for a TD. Despite the final score of 41-14, NGU was getting tons of pressure on their QB and their OL held well most of the time. Despite not having the greatest talent over the years, we should be much better in the trenches than NGU. This is a game that I have been extremely nervous all year about, because frankly, they would have beat us by three scores if we played them to open the season last year. However, having watched our game and their game, I think we're better than I thought we would be, and they appear to be not quite as good as advertised, but I won't completely say they aren't, you never know. The chance for an upset still exists if we take them lightly. Holmes appears back in business as he is tops on the depth chart. That's great news. They won't be able to cover him. That's my take. HEADS UP: There is no Charleston Southern message board. There is an FCS megaboard that extremely active. That said, there are no CSU posters there either. A quick look at their football stadium will give you an answer as to why. They have installed new turf, but no new seating arrangements.

They were first in their conference defensively last season and return most of their starters. They lost to Vandy by 1 point and beat a good Liberty team. No pushover for sure. Triple option has given us problems in the past. They return their qb and all 5 OL. We better be ready to play

Last year was last year...it ain't happening. All I want to see is the same effort minus the most of the mistakes and it's done-dada. One things for sure...this fanbase is not short on pragmatists/realists/pessimists...at all... neal-brown

If we don't prepare and take them serious they can beat us. Should they? No. I fully expect this staff to know what could haooen. I hope we come out and hit them hard and fast

The message is important, not the messenger. I'm a Christian but I have a problem with Olsteen and others like him living like kings. Nobody needs a $10,000,000 house.

Matt 19:24 is a quandry but the truth Forest Gump said it right " a man only needs so much money, the rest is for showing off". You build a $10,000,000 house you are showing off. Dave Ramsey wants you to eat and rice and beans and drive a $500 car yet he just built a $9,000,000 house with 16 bedrooms. Showing off. Look what I have built. Sickening but that's my opinion

I DID NOT KNOW that Joel Olsteen nor Dave Ramsey were Charleston Southern Alumni? Did they both play football there? If not, PLEASE, let's get back to talking football!!!

Sickening but that's my opinion I don't know much about Olsteen and how he uses his money. As for Ramsey, before tearing the guy for building such a large house, you should know that he houses missionaries in his house. I heard on the radio (can't remember the station) that he also let a family or two in his local area take residence in his house after falling into financial hardship.

Mods, move this post or let's talk football!!!
Chaz Sthrn is receiving 8 votes this week in the latest poll, ranking them 36th in the FBS Coaches Poll. On the contrary, our NEWEST brother, Coastal Carolina, is ranked #1!!!
They get their facilities in order (got to be better than FAU or FIU when they FIRST entered the Belt) and they're going to be hungry! Now will they come, all hyped up and be FAU their first year or two? Or Ga Southern/ App St???

Nobody believed me. Southern and App both had losing seasons prior to arriving. Coastal lost to a very good NDSU team in the FCS championship and are ranked #1 this year. Their coach is tremendous and has brought them their very quickly.
