Literally just saw this and was coming to talk about it. I hear that UAB wants to drop the A and just be UB or something to that effect, but I don't know that the city of Birmingham can support it's own university. What say the masses?

They screwed over their student athletes, staff and fans. Bring it back, don't bring it back. I don't care. Huge black eye for them either way. I have many questions about the logistical aspects of this if they're trying a comeback. Just a colossal failure by Watts and Bryant Jr in my book.

My question is what are they going to do for the student athletes that transferred out. Are they going to cancel the waiver, give another one and try to let the field a team this year, let them transfer back and sit a year. This is a huge cluster that never had to happen.

It'll be interesting to see...I think I read on the blazers board that there was around 40 or so players that are still on campus...I'm glad they still have the opportunity to field a football team...

Maybe a lot of the UAB players that committed to USA will leave USA

Will they have to start out in FCS again? They might have a hard time recruiting with what happened

No, C-USA commish seems to think that the conference will accept them back, no questions asked

I don't care that much about the jags, but I consider the blazers rivals...I look forward to getting them back onto the schedule...the team I love to hate ?

Not sure when they could come back on our schedule. We are booked for the next couple years

Well...the press conference was less than stellar, it was more of a back pedal than anything else. No timeline of fielding a team and truly, not much of a guarantee of a team long term. I'm quoting one of the interviewee's "From what I gathered, as long as the fans pay for football, they will have it" something like that anyway, and I agree, that's the vibe that I got from the conference as well.

2016? Maybe they'll be able to suit up against the likes of bama state, tuskegee, bama a&m, etc. at least those could be day trips to save some coin. Who else might have open or moveable slots for them?

Whatever happened to the JV games TROY was playing several years back? Some juco games and throw in uab...would certainly help build depth...

Have wondered that also. My guess is our depth has been thin at certain positions and perhaps they couldn't afford to risk injuries? That or the NCAA doesn't allow them anymore??

Guess they figured out @troytrojansfb didn't have opening in 2016 & thought they would go for the ONE left in 2017
JOX Roundtable @joxroundtable Countdown: 823 days until UAB Football kickoff?
Target date sounding like 2017 per AD. …

C-USA and the NCAA are advising UAB through the whole process. Blazer fans are impatient but dealing with the NCAA is usually not an overnight deal. C-USA seems worried about us throwing too many young people on the field in 2016 for conference play. Opposing C-USA schools don't like the idea of UAB being allowed to sign 50 players at once.
I suspect we'll hear more as the summer progresses. Birmingham businessmen have guaranteed the operational deficit and have raised about $4,000,000 so far toward facilities. It has been estimated that a new football operations center (coaches' offices, locker room, weight room) and turf practice field will cost around $13 million and Watts wants that amount fully covered before we hit the field.
I want to see us play in 2016 but waiting until 2017 is acceptable if construction has started on the facilities. People complain about Legion Field but the other infrastructure needs to be in place before a new stadium is made a priority. It's going to be a hard road back so they don't need to half-A** it.

Well looks as if they will look like SMU did. They basically gave their selves the death penalty, and then brought it back. Will be interesting to watch. Idk how many kids will want to go given that this happened and could again in the future

Well looks as if they will look like SMU did. They basically gave their selves the death penalty, and then brought it back. Will be interesting to watch. Idk how many kids will want to go given that this happened and could again in the future Seeing how they can pull this off and remain in CUSA leaves me doubting. What is the money amount they need? 42 million? Whatever, none of it will come from UA! It's one thing to need that much money per year and have a golden goose who will lay you a golden egg every year but when the goose is dead....well! They are still going to need the same money or much more UA or not. Ok, they get donors to pony up what they need for 2017, what about '18, '19, '20, etc., etc.. When donors say they will give you money you are lucky to get 80% of what they promise but when you need it every year your task gets difficult, very very difficult. I just don't see it happening like they invision. The city of Birminghsm is not rolling in free money like most other cities aren't. It's great for them to throw their verbal support behind the Blazers but wait until they are asked to throw bails of cash behind them! Just sayin'!
