I remember seeing the schedule before the season started, but forgot to ask about this.
Why is the baseball team's OOC schedule so weak this year? We usually have an SEC team or two on there, along with some of the powerhouse CUSA/Southland/Big South/Atlantic Sun teams on the schedule. This year, we have no SEC teams. Heck, there aren't any Power 5 conference teams on the schedule at all. The only team that is known for being great at baseball on the schedule is probably Southern Miss. Troy plays 6 games against SWAC opponents, and 2 games against MEAC opponents. That is typically an RPI killer.
Is it made this way because we weren't able to schedule any big name teams? Is it because it Bobby Pierce's last season and they wanted him to leave with a better chance of a winning record and so he could beat Chase Riddle's win total? I certainly don't understand why we didn't schedule any teams like Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas, Florida State, Florida, Georgia, Ole Miss, Tennessee, etc.

I believe Alabama and Auburn would be on the schedule if they had been willing. Those are the only two power conference teams we normally play year in and year out. The Sunbelt typically has one of the highest (some years the highest) RPI of the mid-major conferences.
