Hartwell seems to listen more to the programs supporters. This is from the few times I have been around him. Dennis, from the first time I laid eyes on him, just didn't seem to take anything to heart. And his last year was just mailed in. When Dennis pulled the plug on the tailgate terrace, I knew it was a mistake. He lost about 50-60 people from Elba that day...not all attended the games on time (or at all at times). This has greatly hurt tailgating atmosphere, IMO. I can remember several times all he would say is Alabama/Auburn doesn't have designated RV hookup(and I don't know if they do or don't). I don't understand why we had to be like AL/AU...we aren't them. I wish they would have kept this area and killed the TV hook-ups about 15 minutes before game time...then back on after the game. Treat it like a TV blackout, and leave it on if the game is a sell-out. I never cared whether they provided cable or not, but I asked the question too if Troy Cable could somehow disable the cable during the games and they said they could not. If I remember right, it was part of the neighborhood so all of those residents would be without cable at the same time

I thought this directive came from the Pike Road offices of the university. The higher ups didn't want to sit in their boxes and look out at all of the people enjoying themselves outside of the stadium. Why should the university provide cable for people tailgating? That seems to be small time thinking in my opinion. If you want to watch other games bring a satellite setup. EXACTLY! The "change" came under the direction of Mt High, Steve was just the messenger. BTW - anyone know of another university that provides electric, water and cable within a designated RV area? I have yet to see one.[/quote] I've been to over 40 different campuses and I have yet to see it anywhere. Giving away amenities that no other school even offers isn't going to grow the fan base. It causes a sense of entitlement and then when growing pains come along and take away those amenities feelings get hurt. I love growing pains. It means we are headed in the right direction. Tailgating fell of for some because of the product on the field. I expect it to be rejuvenated and full of energy come the 2015 season.

I can unscrew the cable connection at my house at any time, and reconnect it later. It may have been true that it couldn't have been done the way it was configured at that time, but changes can be made to most anything. Saying it can't be done was an excuse to take it out.
Really the cable isn't what got most people upset. It was mostly the water and electricity hookups. And I don't believe that other universities had this...I also think we don't have to be like them. Alot of people saw it is something that set Troy apart. I really thought this was something that set us apart and was sad to see the whole thing go.

I have no doubt that type of set up would be very popular at Troy. At least have electricity so you don't have all those generators running.

I may not know Hartwell as well as some of the folks on the board as I have only talked to him a few dozen times or so, but what do I know. Not trying to be a "hater" by any means. I think Hartwell has been a big upgrade from the previous AD, but I still skeptical that most of these financial decisions are made above Hartwell's pay grade. Hartwell has more power and freedom in decision making than Dennis ever did. In all honesty he's more qualified to make those decisions. His background is vastly different than the previous AD. Also his ability to communicate with donors of any and all levels is far far superior to Steve Dennis. Obviously Dr Hawkins will still be involved in a lot of decision making as he is the Chancellor of the university. I will give John credit for listening. He has made changes that have greatly made game day more enjoyable. To touch on the RV posts, there is no perfect scenario. I agree there is no need for water and electric hook up. Most motor homes gave a generator and you can bring one for a trailer. You are tailgating for one day, not staying a week on vacation. It would be nice to have a RV only area permanent but there is no space for that. If you want to watch Bama or Auburn on TV, stay home. I come to Troy to watch my school play. I have lived in Florida for 44 years. I live 45 minutes from UF and 3 hours from FSU. I dont give a rats but what they do. The only score that matters to me is the Troy score, I tailgate to enjoy friends and old teammates, enjoy the pre game experience and to watch a game in a great stadium. I don't do it to watch TV. One of the problems with Troy is to many people more worried about what goes on in the SEC than what goes on in the Vet.

It's not Troy's responsibility to cater to you at your tailgate. I load up 3 tents, 3 tables , numerous boxes of supplies, and a variety of food and drinks for every home game. I'm never later than 9 am even for a 6 pm kickoff. If you want to tailgate get up and do it yourself. Stop expecting s division 1 university to cater to your every wish and need for your tailgate. If you want to buy a generator and the noise bothers you, then buy a Honda.

Value added RV spots could do the same. Some prefer the RV experience as opposed to your method. I do not have an RV as you seemed to have assumed. Congratulations on all the hard work you put into each game though. There is no one size fits all when it comes to game day. And where was the whine? Just a suggestion for enhancing game day.

I have no problem with the athletic department providing dedicated RV spots.
So you need a spot to park your RV? We have them. One will cost you the same as a tent on Tailgate Terrace. We will even furnish you with a trash can. You'd like water and electric hook ups? There are a few of those. One of those will set you back an extra $1500/season. For those who are wheeler dealers, we have a limited number of sites that have cable hook ups in addition to water/electric. If you want one of them, you'll need to pony up an additional $750 "Premium RV Experience fee. For you, Cousin Eddie, we know how much you hate it when the "tank" is full. Therefore as part of Phase 8 Expansion, you can get a sewer hook up as well...for the same cost as a suite, plus a $50,000 infrastructure fee.
Seriously, conduct a market survey (Senior Project for MBA candidate, won't cost anything). If the demand is there at a price that allows the athletic department make a reasonable amount if money, by all means, offer the service.

I heard the RV spot is $1,200? If true, not exactly cheap. I'm curious though if you donated to the TW fund at the $1,200 level and you wished to park your RV instead of a car in the designated TW level parking area, would thst be allowed?

Not sure if there is space for it at Troy though.
