I wonder if the university has ever considered hosting a high school basketball holiday event that could bring some of the top high school basketball players in the state into Trojan Arena. I would put our arena up against any other school in the state and this may provide a great opportunity to get local recruits onto campus and help us showcase our arena.

I can't take credit for this concept. Several schools across the country utilize this opportunity to get kids on campus without having to use any recruiting $$$ in the process.

We should host any type of basketball event we can get to come to Trojan Arena. It should be a huge recruiting tool for us and we should be aggressive in marketing it.

Any chance of getting the state championships games. In Florida the hold the basketball and volleyball championships in Kissimmee at the old Tupperware arena. Does Alabama hold it at a neutral site?

Basketball finals are held at the BJCC in Birmingham. Troy used to host one of the regionals, but let it go due to quite a bit of "thugery" that transpired during the events.

This concept could be put together by having a double header to start out and have one of the local schools host a game against one of the top schools in the state that may have players we are interested in recruiting to play at Troy. This event could be held on a Saturday during December when students are off campus. Keep the event small until management could get an accurate assessment of everything that may be needed - ex. Security for the event.

One thing I wish Troy could do is something UF calls " Friday night Lights". They invite all the top prospects to it. Troy could do it with 1-3 star prospects.

Surely NB would never follow the blueprint that TF set in place before he left...the very same camp that he himself used...in Troy? Perish the thought...

I can drive to Troy quicker than Miami, so I don't live in South Florida. and on a side note did you see what two private schools did in the 7A and 5A state championship. 7A St. Thomas Aquinas 31 Kissimee Osceola 0. And in 5A Plantation American Herritage 38 Tallahassee Godby 0. Aquinas has now won like 7 straight 7A titles but they don't recruit lol

Theoretically maybe but Kissimmee Oeceola HS is south of I-4 and they represented the north half of the state in the 7A state championship. Tampa Robinson High School is south of I-4 and when I was coaching we met them second round (north) Lakeland High is south of their and they play in the North also

I've worked on a statewide educational organization for 28 years and when we discussed "South Florida" we were referring to south of I-4.

I've worked on a statewide educational organization for 28 years and when we discussed "South Florida" we were referring to south of I-4. The problem with Athletics in FL is the far south ( pompano to Miami) is so densely populated it draws the line farther south to make a north. Thus Lakeland is North in 7A, but in 1A and 2A with the exception of private schools there are no rural schools to the South, so there has been years where teams up close to me are put in the South?? I-4 geographically cuts the state in half but if you do the population? Who knows. All I know is I'm 1 1/2 hours North of both Orlando and Tampa and there is no way I live in South Florida facebookthumbup
