If Troy has a chance on a proven winner in Clark and chose to go with a unproven coach, I hope it works out and we don't look back and go ..ooofff!! Again, I"m sure Clark is a good Coach. But Proven? Proven usually means over years!! He's a proven HS coach, for sure. But, he 11-4 JSU. Lost to powerhouses Murray State, TN St., etc. Took 2 ot to beat DII N AL (I think it'd had been years since JSU hadn't had winning season ... Jack Crowe won championships in the OVC, should we call him up?) And, he's won 5 games at UAB. This record does not make someone a "proven" college coach. Potential, yes. If he comes to Troy would he win ... maybe (and I would hope so if he's our Coach!). But it's not as though the Bear has come back in the form of Bill Clark! He's no "slam dunk" ... just like no coach is. The value of a hire isn't determined on the announcement podium ... it'll be a few years down the road. Valid points but I look at this way, not including Hs record he currently has 16 more college wins than the SEC assts we are considering and he was a D1 coordinator. No slam dunks on any of the names we are hearing, so it will be interesting.

Consider all of these options (including Clark, even though not my first option) a slam dunk.

I say aim for the best guy overall. Not the best Troy guy or group of Troy guys. I respect your opinion. However, I imagine it is also based on your friendship with the current assistant coaches. I respect that you want them to keep their jobs and Clark would bring his crew. While I hate to see anyone lose a job, these coaches got us in the situation we find ourselves in. They chose the profession. It's time to clean house and rebuild. Clark, Cornelious, Chuck and the others would not miss a beat and have been recruiting. We would have pick of the litter at UAB and they have some kids that can play.....NOW! Again, don't blame you for wanting to protect your friends. Yes. Yes.

From reading Clark's comments regarding the very uncertain future of UAB football, it seems he ready to get out of dodge and fast. Even if UAB football isn't shut down, this has been a recruiter's nightmare. It would take a lot of public relations work to salvage the "commitment to football" reputation.

If the best possible guy is a Troy guy I'm all for it. If the best possible guy is one that's never stepped foot into our stadium I'm all for him. I want to win and am ready to go bowling.

Coaching questions aside for a moment... if CUSA loses UAB, who are they going to raid to replace them? Will they replace them? I'm generally happy with the conference as it is now, though I think we need one more school for football. We really don't need to lose any of our stronger members.

IF I remember correctly CUSA has 13 teams, so losing UAB will balance their two divisions.

They add UNCC next season. Someone from USA west would be highest on the list.

One more tidbit. Clark has 10 former assistants who are now high school head coaches in Alabama. TEN!!

Nothing says "credible source" like having your changes/deletions tracked right on the website.

Alright, I've been out of pocket and haven't really kept up this week. I've seen it mentioned on the board here and in this very thread a couple of times where some of y'all are talking about an announcement coming on Monday or a bit later this coming week. Can someone provide a source link for that update alerting us to this looming announcement? I'd be interested in catching up on that one.

No link, but JH said on the pregame show that they were finalizing everything and there would be an announcement in the next 48-72 hrs...

Why would you say no to the coach? Let's look at the facts. Chuck Dunn - LB coach, former student assistant and then GA at Troy. Born and raised in pike county. Loved by everyone in this county Duwan Walker - Defensive coordinator former player for coach Blakeney in the 90's. Ask coach about him, he thinks the world of him. Cornelius Williams- WR coach. Former trojan who again, ask LB about him. Bryant Vincent- offensive coordinator. Former OC at Charles Henderson. Very well liked in Troy. Proven winner Bill Clark-all he does is win. Start at the beginning. Look where Prattville was when he got there and where they are now. He did as much or more to build USA as Joey jones did, he put Jax state back on the map in 1 year and he had people excited about freaking UAB football. If you can win there.... My gosh. Make the call now!!!!! We all want an instant impact. We have some great candidates, but where else can we find some of our own with a head coach that doesn't lose who can immediately bring players in to fill holes and have us bowling in 1 year. I beg you to tell my why this can't work. We blew our chance 5 years ago to have him as DC. Don't blow this now. Let's take care of out people. [ I would not have an issue with Clark but coaches being from here and/or well liked in Pike County is of no importance. If you win you are usually "liked" by your fans and town but lose and watch the hate start. We all get frustrated at poor performance. If you are a great coach and happen to be a Troy guy or you are loved by the locals that is a bonus.
