While most of the initial focus for Troy’s game against Western Kentucky will be on the nation’s leading running back Antonio Andrews, the Hilltoppers sport a pretty strong defense, too. WKU ranks 24th in total defense, and Trojans offensive coordinator Kenny Edenfield said the key to the Hilltoppers’ success is the middle portion of the defense. “If you’ve ever heard of a team being strong up the middle, they are with both of those inside (linebackers) and the free safety (Jonathan Dowling),” he said. Dowling is a transfer from the University of Florida and is third on the team in tackles with 45 and has two interceptions. The two leading tacklers are linebackers Xavius Boyd and Andrew Jackson, who definitely have Trojans’ head coach Larry Blakeney’s attention. “He’s damn good,” Blakeney said specifically of Boyd. “They run around good on defense at all positions, but those two linebackers and the safety are guys you notice.” ( Full Article) sFi_lance
